Brought the Contraption Too.0 home this morning.. 11 hp. 5 gears.. New batery is down and most electical conections are rusted.. Tires need air.. might have to replace then.. All in all it is 10 times better than I expected for 120.00..
On a sad note.. The man was not gone from break up as I had suppected.. After making arrangements to pick it up.. His father called me and said he would handle it.. His son has drown labor day weekend.. The father was beside himself.. I told him the tractor would be in an art project for Burniing Man..He knew of BM through people he works with.. I told him I would make a sign that had his sons name on it.. Powered by Connor.. Connor Guy, Dallas Or. aged 27 years..

Wow…
There’s no shortage of tragedy in this world, and that certainly qualifies as one. Not even getting a start on life, in truth.
A plaque is a good idea Unjon. Maybe you could you incorporate something that could be sort two pieces? One to keep mounted on the vehicle and one to be unbolted and burned at the end of the event? What day of the weekend did he drown? That'd be the day to burn it.
Man, so sad. Got to honor the life. Doing so honors our own lives as well. I’ve said it before… the rust on the metal is like the very breath of our lungs, and these machines are us.

Thanks for the pic, Dusza!
- and MAXINE ! I am hoping someone would do it for me, but we NEED a place to find women's gear when we need it. Maybe a clearing house of sorts- I'm gonna be thinking on this for quite some time. It is a total bother to get what WE need, isnt it?!
As far as the young man drowning over Labor day - it's very sad and unfortunate. Maybe your idea for an art car will give the Dad a chuckle or two over the next year... and that would be good. But I am also sure the pain of losing his son will last his lifetime. You could tell him, if he wants to write his son a letter, we could put it to burn in the Temple. But that is ultimately up to you... you'd have to explain it and what-not.. and he'd have to trust we wouldn't read it. I like your plaque idea, definitely.

You all know this is just a running gag... right? Every year you'll find me & unjon in the same boat. For some stupid reason.

I like the plaque idea as well. It seems a fitting tribute.

Agripunk,
For the angry farmer in all of us.
For the angry farmer in all of us.
In reference to Unjohn's lawn-mower, I think that it is really cool the way you all are taking something that could be a downer and turning it into inspiration for the project. If the young man's father can appreciate it that is all the better. The possibility for an art car to have some impact off-playa on people who aren't burners helps to explain some of the reasons for the whole event.
I never did get to meet either Cap'n D. or Unjohn on the playa. Whenever I saw a boat with half-ass blue lights on the bottom I hightailed it in the other direction. Y'all are just too mean and scary.

Blast from the past -- I'm reading last year's thread.
Le Chat Noir, April 12, 2007:
I used to have a Harley. Kickstarted it one year after pulling it out of the garage. Two months of no riding and it fired right up... shot dog food out the front pipe like a shotgun.
That mouse must have had a wild ride.

I don't think so.
Besides, I always believed in being as polite as people allow me to be, even as a 1%er.
Seemed to be a fair amount of courtesy among motorcycle social organizations anyway.
I think the two of us might have a chance fighting you, if you would take it easy on us.
