Avatar problems

Postby nipples » Tue Sep 09, 2003 11:38 pm

hello, dearest Emily Sparkle

i'm having trouble getting an Avatar to enter

get a message saying that that the error is with the file size too big (over 6K... it is not). i am sending jpeg

and a bunch of error lines about the headline area..

so i'm wondering if it a problem with the spacing between my name & the/time i joined? is there enough leading in the template? just a hunch that this is the problem, being in the headline area and all.

carry on & i'll get by & it maybe is not meant to be that i have an Avatar. seriously. i could put someones' eye out with that!

love always,

nipples

p.s., i use a mac.

i've tried BMP & JEPG, but my COMPUSERVE GIF is not available for some reason.. it is shown as normal option when saving, but is not highlighted to select from. this is in Adobe Photoshop 4.01, full version.

i feel like a dinosaur! (i was a litho-stripper & for 16 years, & the last three or so were using Dynalite's much hated Nikon 35mm film/slide Coolscan.. but ours worked pretty well. it was for a weekly newspaper chain & print shop. lot's of pics but not much vareity in how i'd have to do them & i'm a dinosaur.

maybe if ask real nice one of 'youse would change it to gif if i send it nearly anything else to you?

file extension

Postby Guest » Fri Sep 12, 2003 9:25 am

Maybe the server is looking for a .gif or .jpg filename extension -- if you're using a Mac you might not necessarily have that?

Also, I think the image size is limited to 60x60 -- are you inside those limits?

>but is not highlighted to select from.

image->mode->indexed color will let you save as a gif. fewer bits takes less memory.

I've increased the avatar file size limit from it's ridiculously low 6K limit to 16K. Try again now.

Did the avatars get wiped with the new version of eplaya? Or are they just turned off and I have to flip a switch somewhere? The really weird thing, is that I can still see DeFacto's avatar. Please advise. Thanks!

Hey Chai,

I had to resubmit my avatar....

...and I see a few others have blank spaces where their smiling faces should be.

I seem to remember sometime ago about some indivisuals not wanting avatars and other graphics.

funny how Joni Mitchell makes all the more sense now.

Ok, so this is completely off the thread. I admit I have the stupidest avatar on the Eplaya. In my defense, that little dancing banana cracks my ass up EVERY time I see it. I have it on my desktop at work now so when I have a run in with a jerk I pop it up and watch it for a minute or two and feel way better.

Back on thread. To the Admin here. Please do not let ChickenFish have that avatar back. That thing is just wrong.

Yes,
There are those that believe that all should be and look alike.
When you're not, the uniformed shall ostracize you.

Sounds sort of like highschool, you know, when you did'nt have the same sneakers or outfit.

IMHO indivisuality rocks.

Still trying to figure out why some of the avatars went into the ether. We're sorry or any inconvenience.

Is this why some other folks' avatars, like ChaiGuy and III for example, that I could see last week, are no longer visible? I thought maybe my computer was screwed up. I just changed my security settings to prompt before running ActiveX controls and plugins (I just nuked that damned Gator/GAIN spyware and don't want it back).

Yep, I'm afraid that's our bad. Your system should be fine.

I just can't figure out why it would ony effect some folks avatars, instead of all of them...still looking into it.

i think it affected everyones, and the ones you see now are ones that were reloaded after the update.

some of us haven't bothered, which is why there's a discrepancy.

No, it didn't affect mine, I know, and my "technopatra" login has no special permissions, like "admin" does, so it isn't a user level thing ...(scratching head).

odd, because i don't see an image for your avatar - i just see a busted link. i'd go look at source, but i'm a bit sloshed right now, and it'd probably trigger the hangover.

You see a busted link now? I see no link.

I assumed that the upgrade wiped out the uploaded avatars directory.
But not having looked at code (and being similarly inebriated), might
be something else.

ok that's just weird. I see my avatar just fine (?!)

I also see others, but perhaps they re-uploaded (Trey, jaunicoheal, De Facto, etc.).

OK this one is beyond my (ironically) coding-challenged fingers. Am escalating up to the engineers.
