Hierarchical Subcategory Listings

Postby admin » Wed Feb 25, 2004 9:39 pm

This mod is intended to allow you to quickly drill down to a subcategory from the main Forum Index page. While perhaps not an earth-shaking change right now, this will come in mighty handy when we start condensing/reducing the categories in an effort to simplify browsing/wayfinding.

Check it out now, check it out after the folder structure gets shrunken like a cannibal head, and let us know what you think.

The goal of this is to let you click directly into a subforum from the Index apge, saving a click. It will not affect perfomance time.

Are you talking about the name of the forum with the most recent post that
now appears in the rightmost column of the table, above the last post time
and the poster's name?

Dammit. That was me.

Say hey, maybe time to change the admin defaults for this forum?

""i can't tell how it works""

my bad - i expected the announcement to come after the release.

it's an improvement, but i think i'd still prefer getting rid of the deep hierarchy alltogether.

I know. the edit in this version is synched with "delete" - we can't give one permission without giving both. Grr. I didn't want anyone to be able to delete their posts. We've got separating those functions on the short list.

Not sure if this is a bug, or just an oddity. The unread marks on the main
page listing seem to be behaving inconsistently.

When I first logged in, the large icon to the left of Themecamps & Art
Installations was yellow (indicating unread posts), and the small subforum
icons were yellow as well for Art on the Playa and New Camp Ideas.

I read the New Camp Ideas posts (by clicking Themecamps & Art
Installations, then clicking New Camp Ideas, then clicking (dis)information
camp?).

When I returned to the home page, the large icon next to Themecamps &
Art Installations is now white, indicating no unread posts, but the Art on
the Playa forum's small icon is still yellow, and I do in fact still have
unread posts there.

Should it be unread? I can provide source for review if you don't see the
same effect.
