and thanks, diane, for pointing out how godawful their overhead is

Gods, I'd hate to be the logistician for that camp. They'd need two semis: one for their gear, the other for their survival and camp gear, food, space for trash and cleanup supplies, in addition to personal transport vehicles...Can you imagine the packlist spreadsheet?!?!

hey lurker - i didn't hear a question in there , buddy.

if you want to know something......

if you want to ask something........

if you want to ask for something........

you'll have to speak up!!!!!!!!

i confess that i have a pathological weakness for going to live music venues and dancing on top of the amplifiers.

as a result, i have 10 % hearing loss in one ear.

now that i'm an adult - i wear earplugs.

welcome to the game, ya fuckin noob!@

With yellow, red and roomy food, and quivered
Crouching on a golden cushion
Undressed himself to disappear
Through an infinity of pleasure
And smiled to free the running me
With "Am I my brother's keeper?"
His meek hand on devils gloves
Shaping running blood

The prophecy, to recreate the truth
In visions of a seasonal mood
In truth, the only sight he saw
Lay hidden in the bathroom door
And spat on the rug
As high is high, so low is low
And that's the end of it

i'm afraid this is going to have to go to the lost & found unless you identify who it belongs to.

noob? not me, just resurrecting an old name I haven't used since the lurker's thread on the old e-playa toddled off to the archives

but I regress...

just thought it would soothe some egos to have a thread asking for help with a theme/art/performance inna forum where you ask for help with blah blah blah.

there's better drifts that the old round-and-round about getting the idea of a gift economy, yes? no? who cares?

GWAR

Postby Blenderhead » Thu Sep 25, 2003 4:11 pm

I, Blenderhead, hereby pledge to pay the entry fee for one member of GWAR so they can have a battle in Thunderdome.

On ONE condition: Just like in the movie, Two go in and ONE comes out. If they are the hyperviolent bloodspillers and members of the apocalypse they market themselves to be, they shouldn't have any problem using REAL weapons in the dome.

Why should I (or anyone) front the money to watch some metalheads bounce around and swing foam swords at each other; that shit already happens for free in Thunderdome (or so I've heard).

I second that Precipitate, it makes no sense to me either this statement about art.

A poem by me -

The diamonds have gone, the light fades
Black is the art
That conceals

In time will we run to the ocean
And fall with the insects

Into the places

They have put
Us aside

Now it exists independently of me - the response to anything that has been created is unique to each individual, art is a process of object and response - that response itself is the space in which the art lives - as a viewer / reader whatever your response is, it is uniquely your own

effectively the art is created in that moment and takes on a unique form of life, it's own life as created by your perception and the work done previously by the artist - outgrabe people outgrabe...

Isn't GWAR kinda MOOPy?

(Oh yeah, another vote for "bring 'em on but make 'em pay" here. I can understand holding a fundraiser to get them out there, but the performance/booking fee sets my teeth on edge. Don't do it, I say.)

How about GWAR themselves chiming in? They're not so high and mighty that theycan speak to the masses, are they? If so, keep 'em out of BRC, no matter how low the cost.

I've often thought about having big acts play the playa, but then it'll turn into a concert, there will be crowds at the concert venues, while smaller installations and performances get ignored, rumors will fly as to performance times, and there will be MOOP. Drifts and drifts of MOOP. That also means "Media Out Of Place"

Burningman has survived in part because it disallows media attention and doesn't seek undue coverage.

No major music groups, unless they perform for free and unannounced and as someone else, just like the rest of us. And they, not their rodies, clean up after themselves.

Not at all. Rather, they co-opt it.

GROOP would play unannounced but we're broke and our manager is threatening to sue for expenses incurred (check out www.aceofdiscs.com) - GWAR on the other hand must have plenty of cash, though they are pretty awful anyway, good for thunderdome though (I wouldn't want to be under the influence at that gig, scary)

Gwar is cool and shit and I was going to see them once but my friend's car broke on I-70. You shouldn't be allowed to play Burning Man unless you want to play Burning Man and you shouldn't want to play Burning Man just because somebodies are paying for you. They are a band, they should have more money than I do. I work at a Halloween Adventure. No red carpets or green skittles for me. My pockets aren't deep enough for that shit, I don't even have pockets, I take off my pants at burning man. Unless the dust is really heavy.

So fuck that I'll take my whatever jam band it was I really freaking liked but had never heard of before that night and probably will never hear again because it wasn't just one band it was several members of different bands I had never heard of getting together because they like to sing and play music and watch the people dance and sing to their music as they play it....... Over some fucking GWAR show any day.

Hi all, this is a blatant crossthread attempt to push certain crossthread irritants to the bottom of the pile.
