The Hydrogen Economy burning man art installation is seeking an artist to adapt a handheld flame-throwing apparatus into a beautiful fire-spitting dragon.
The Hydrogen Economy has been an art installation on the playa for 3 years since 2003. In past incarnations, participants would wield electric sparking wands and chase hydrogen filled bubbles as they travel upward in the center of a dome. The installation has been blacklit and used blacklight-sensitive bubble solution to create a mysterious purple glowing effect. When sparks touch the bubbles, they explode in both wispy flames and loud pops depending on the hydrogen/oxygen mix.
This year, it is our goal to recast the project's aesthetic to connect with the natural world, set in pre-historic times, with fire-breathing dragons, lava pits and lilly pads.
If you would like to help us achieve this aesthetic by casting a handheld metal flamethrowing apparatus into a fire-spitting dragon, please contact Brett Levine at firstname.lastname@example.org.
