Fire conclaves in the East bay or SF?

Postby Smokey » Tue Nov 11, 2003 5:13 pm

I know there is one around somewhere. I'm getting started in poi, and I would like to hook up with a group to learn some new stuff.

Anyone know their contact info and locations?
If everyone in the ghetto were on mushrooms and E, the ghetto would be a place everyone would WANT to be.

Hey Smokey,

Here's the topica and yahoo group email addresses for a couple groups in the area. Also, gittergoddess.com.

Also there is an open workshop in the tenderloin called Spin Jam every thursday night only $5 and a beautiful space. PM me for the address.
I took the road less traveled, and now I would like to go back and find the paved one.

There's no shortage of fire groups in the Bay Area.

One of the sources above has a slight typo. It should be glittergoddess.com

And the following was just compiled by Roger (I hope you don't mind me posting it here!)

FireSpinning on Yahoo Groups
An announcement list that Roger started a couple of months ago for fire
spinning-related announcements, including practices, performances, etc.
Minimal chatter on this list, mainly focused on announcements. Send
e-mail to: FireSpinning-subscribe[at]yahoogroups.com

Whirlygig
A list for a group that practices in an alley south-of-market (SF) on Sunday
nights. Check out http://www.mythic-fire.com/whirlygig.html for more
information.

Infinite Kaos/Spin Jam
Infinite Kaos hosts Spin Jam every Thursday night at
their space in the Tenderloin... Don't show up too early!

East Bay Practices
There are practices Tuesdays in Alameda and Thursdays in Union City,
but for these you really want to get on the FirePixie and FireZealots lists
on Yahoo Groups. This is mainly folks affiliated with SINtillation,
one of the best fire troupes in the Bay Area, but lots of other folks show
up to practice, too. There's also a practice at the Gazebo at Lake
Merrit in Oakland, organized by someone on the Whirlygig list (see
above).
lists: firepixie-subscribe[at]yahoogroups.com (Union City)
and fire-zealots-subscribe[at]yahoogroups.com (Alameda)
also: www.sintillation.org

Silicon Valley Fire
There's a group associated with the Burning Silicon Burning Man
regional group that meets to spin fire. Most practices in the past have been on Monday nights, but there's talk of changing the night. Practices tend to be in peoples' back yards, so it depends on availability of hosts.
Send mail to: siliconvalleyfire-subscribe[at]yahoogroups.com

Santa Cruz
There's a bunch of people that meet at the light house at sunset on Sundays, hosted by Nocturnal Sunshine.
Like Silicon Valley, there are also practices hosted by various people
in their yards.

Thanks for the Awesome list, I would like to add that It was my understanding that Spin Jam had recently moved it's time from 10 pm to 2am to 8pm to 12am, meaning on Infinite Kaos time (much like Playa time) it probably starts around 9:30 now as opposed to 11:30! LOL! I haven't been in weeks so best to check.
I took the road less traveled, and now I would like to go back and find the paved one.
