Update Small piece of sky - dance piece

Postby dancemaker » Sat Aug 19, 2006 11:50 am

I am posting this info as a lot of people have written me regarding participating in this dance piece. Please note that the rehearsal will be at 6pm on the 31st at the Temple and the performance at 8:30pm that same evening. If you have any questions please contact me. I look forward to dancing with you soon!
I am still looking for musicinas who may be interested in accompanying the piece so spread the word!

"a small piece of sky" choreography by Jackie Latendresse
Burning Man, Black Rock City, Nevada
Location : The Temple
Date: Thursday August 31st
Time: Rehearsal 6pm Performance 8:30pm

"a small piece of sky" was first presented in December 1995 in Kitchener Ontario as a part of "Quit Staring" at the Volcano Club. It has since been remounted for a variety of performances including Dreamscape which was presented in Saskatoon and Regina in 2005.
The piece is performed blindfolded and is divided into three sections which can be performed in any order that the dancer wishes. This year the work will be performed at Burning Man. There will be a rehearsal/ training session at the Temple at 6pm preceeding the performance. All who wish to take part in the work are welcome. Please wear white and bring a black blindfold. The work is a hommage to women( and men) who have been unjustly incarcerated in Insane Asylms. It is a dance of both hope and fear, of pain and strength and it's minimalist butohesque style help to convey these torn feelings. It is both beautiful and grotesque.
If you would like to learn the piece in advance or are interested in finding out more about the dance click on the "Man" icon on the home page of the site www.freeflowdance.com

wow that is fantastic!
I originally used the solo piece for flute by Dead Can Dance and envision something kind of atmospheric. The movements in genral are done very slowly but the music could be a mix of speeds contrasting and enhancing the slowness of the movments. The piece will run approximately 10 minutes. It could be repeated as many times as the dancers wish though.
I am camping with Fool's Paradise at 8:30 around Chance/Destiny We should hook up early in the week and see what we come up with!

Hi again,

I figured atmospheric for sure... Do you have any other musicians hooking up yet?

The Drum truck has no sound system... it's just a multi player Rhythm Machine... that plays along with music.

See you soon!

well there are actually quite a few dancers committed so it will happen for sure! Just no musicians yet, but I know a crowd of dancers will soon attract musicians!

hmmm that is strange there must be a problem with the system right now. I tried a few other on the PM and it didn't work either.
As to the question, no I don't know what that is or how to post that. do you have info or would you like to post it for me?
