"Hey Guys"

And a picture of a cat. It's a bot. It's a guest, so I can't see how many postings it has left, but it's on like every thread. Please fix this!

I spent several hours cleaning them out of the Q & A folder, and I'm working on the rest of the board.

Whoah, now the "Hey Guys" thing has taken on new form. Super giant - as like 10,000 pixels - letters and numbers. It's really kinda fascinating.

Those 10K pixels really freaked me out, I thought my computer was going to explode. Some of us don't have blazing hot e-speed.
Is it possible to do a search for this "giant" and delete them?
There's one on "phone booth on the playa" in the Experiences thread. I'm afraid to open a thread w/ Guest as the last submitter now.

AFAIK there is no way to go and just delete all of those posts with one click. I spent several hours one day removing all of his posts from the Q & A section. Since then I've just taken to removing the posts when I see someone responding to a thread where he has posted.

Removing the posts is a very tedious task requiring several clicks. I'd imagine that we could spend several more hours on this project.

The most frustrating thing, this could all happen again tomorrow. There has been nothing installed to prevent anyone from posting hundreds of posts per hour, and only 3 or 4 people have the ability to freeze or delete accounts, of those only one person, Emily, regularly appears here.

Oh, and I did delete his post in the Phone Booth Thread.

Shouldn't Spanky or Emily be able to delete with one click inside the "mysql"?

spanks is the only person with direct access to login and do queries directly against the db. part of the problem was to immediately stop the poster by deleting the account, and you can see now that the user/ownership of the posts defaulted to guest.

yeah, sucks for everyone. i still keep the list of things that need to be done like enhancement requests, bug fixes.. etc. but until we scrounge up a php/mysql resource and get spankys approval its all on hold. only the #1 critical issue can be addressed and only when spanky has the time.

yeah, there's no way through the admin panels to get rid of those quickly. i'm not sure if we ever were able to limit the image width thing, but in this case when he posted the original image, it was a size that was acceptable, now he's gone and replaced the happy cat image with a larger sized one.

google can be our friend for finding the rest of these since the phpbb search sucks so bad. this search:

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=%22He ... =&safe=off

shows we've got just more than 800 to go, which means chai and sb have squashed more than half of alfredricko's damage! hooray!

i agree the whole situation with getting mods installed or getting direct work on the database done is frustrating. hell, the fact that i'm still going in every day or two to look at and delete the offending profiles of every new user is frustrating. but i'm just a volunteer sitting 3000 miles and 3 time zones away from the Org office, so I just do what I can.

Wonder if you can somehow go after the hoster of the alfredriko picture? Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but when you pull up the asscat pix properties you get the following source URL...

http(colonslashslash)www(dot)degruchy(dot)org/images/misc/happycat(dot)jpg

Chasing the cats tail further, this degrunchy.org is a blog addy. Might someone be able to backtrack to its owner? Just a thought... esp. since this person claims to be so computer savvy iin it's blogs...

I know you must've already ran this down... but if you didn't... might be able to find the responsible party. Then??? Who knows.

good ideas Sue.

I also just wanted to take this time to thank Emily. I'm dead serious when I say that with out her, this board wouldn't exist. She is a behind-the-scenes kind of hero. Basically if something good gets done around here, she's probably doing it.

Thanks Emily!

since the alfredickhead account was deleted, cant do a lookup on the ipaddr they posted from. anyone can post a link to a picture from any source so the owner may not be the poster.

i think i made that suggestion of posting up the ipaddr when it was going on, no one replied.
