I used to use my position relative to the front of the Man for navigation CONSTANTLY, especially at night...But the relatively minor inconvenience of losing that reference point is more than made up for by the ensuing mass confusion! Maybe next year somebody's gonna have to build big, mobile frameworks with black dropcloths that can be wheeled around to make him "disappear".......

Back when BORG2 was just getting started they had a little brainstorm thread in their tribe. I suggested a parody of center camp (suggested it be called eccenter camp). Now that I know that the man is going to be facing in different directions over time, this idea is more interesting. Someone in another thread suggested having something mounted on a vehcile that might sort of look kinda like center camp from a distance.

I know someone that has a vehicle for sale. This vehicle has been on the playa for the past couple of years. It is a large flatbed truck with sides that fold down and are supported that makes a rather large floor area.

One idea that has crossed my mind is to get something like that vehicle and rather than driving it around the playa as a party barge, load it up with patio heaters, picnic tables, some refreshments, lawn chairs and a sound system ... head way out onto the playa at around midnight, set up the heaters tables and chairs, crank up the tunes and have a little party until sunrise when the thing is loaded back up and hauled back in for the day. What would even be MORE interesting to me is the black cloth thing someone mentioned ... to make the whole thing invisible from the explanade. It would be a nice little party that people would stumble on as they were walking across the playa.

Maybe for 06 ...

Yeah, I was the one who authored those concepts....(certainly not the ONLY one.) In submarine warfare they use the term "rig for silent running", which is pretty much self-explanatory. How about "SR-71 Party Camp"?

SR-71 Party Camp...hmmm...but you can't drive really really fast on the playa. Great idea though to hide the party. It won't take much this year.

random suggestions:

Apogee Camp
( ap·o·gee
1. The point in the orbit of the moon or of an artificial satellite most distant from the center of the earth)

Second Foundation
(Asimov reference)

Planet X
(would have worked better in last year's theme)

Subliminal Implant Camp
(trying to think of something floating around in the psyche unnoticed)

Through the Looking Glass

Maybe Christo could come and wrap him in black or for that matter the whole playa (to keep the dust down).
