Terminal Village 2007

Postby Killbuck » Sat Sep 09, 2006 5:21 pm

I would guess you might as well go for the whole half block designated to theme camps because if anyone else is assigned there we will assimilate them anyway,... ( All your bases is belonging to us )

So true, my thought as well

Street frontage worked well for the Bar Camp, and Espresso Camp it made it real inviting,

YES! I propose that these face the plaza!!!!! The friendly faces can hide so much!

APOKILIPTIKA and the 4207 had central space s behind there facades, would you want to continue that, or use a shared courtyard with your own gate entrances, how about a relatively large commons?

We'd be willing to share a common area, and squoosh ourselves into a more condensed form.

Would we want to make use of the frontage on A and B or basically have a wall of RVs?

Prolly have some sort of wall- maybe covered, screened...

Internal roads you could get a pumper truck down seems necessary,

Right! Also those internal roads offer opportunities for the public to enter in different ways. Each would be a unique entry.

along with parking for camp members who need to get there vehicles out to use in there org capacities.

That's certainly do-able

The Bar Camp used a jots gray water tank instead of an evaporation pond ,..Oh so handy, would you want to consider that , or dedicate space for one or more evaporation set ups ?

That tank was hailed!!!!! We would certainly want to keep the idea- perhaps with some smallish evaps too.

Is there any idea how many people we are talking about,

Hmmm. I recall 150 is the starting point for villages? But, I don't think that's a rule, just a suggested guideline for planning. We'd probably have less that that I'd guess.

is a shared shower facility even practical? If a shared shower set up is practical is it worth looking into bulk water and maybe a propane water heater or large solar water heater for it?

We might want to set that as a bin item as they say..... a shared shower could be done, or just leave it to each camp to do as they please.... showers are sorta like kitchens... very primal things... touchy! We can save that one for later I suppose.

Do you want a common mutant vehicle parking zone along one of the facades or individual mutant vehicle parking showing connection to your camp?

Considering the idea we have for placement (as if we have it) the front on the plaza should have space for a MV or two to park. As for me, I'm not considering anything new (apart from TMV type 3) but a motorized couch will be there in 2007-- BB and I are determined to have the "Staff Couch" project completed for next year. It can park easy. Apart from that, we will just have to see if any other MVs are planned, and go from there.

Here is my measly first stab at a layout-- just a first stab in the dark:

>>>Would we want to make use of the frontage on A and B or basically have a wall of RVs?

I think we will want to use part of the "A" and "B" frontage, and all the plaza frontage.

Updated layout (in my previous post), between Apokiliptika and MASH being a shared courtyard, for entry and theatrics.

>>>Hmmm. I recall 150 is the starting point for villages?

Like most of the Burning Man stuff, it is different in different places. In another week or two someone should contact BMORG and see if this stuff will fly?

>>>Apart from that, we will just have to see if any other MVs are planned, and go from there.

Given the ease of modifying my pickup, I am thinking of modifying it with armor plates like the Kernul, and a nice white/grey/black urban camo; and then mount a flamey whooshy thing on top.[/img]

i say try to get it between esplanade and A. i have a vehicle design i want to start on and if we have enough... being out of neighborhood traffic is a good thing. but its also monopoly board prime realestate with no houses or hotels.

Three issues with being on the Esplanade:

1) Real estate is at a premium. BMORG will give you a lot more space if you are not on Esplanade. To get lots of Esplanade space you basically need to be "old timers" like Space Cowboys.

2) Esplanade attracts yahoos, abandoned bikes, etc. DDI had 15 abandoned bikes to deal with, Entheon Village had a zillion.

3) I don't think Eplaya Bar and Expresso want to be near the Esplanade, in preference to being on or near the 3:00 Plaza. I think we should leave the two corners of 3:00 at the Esplanade to some other victim...

The orginal idea was to use both sides of 3:00, but people seemed to prefer being adjacent. Maybe we could be on one side of 3:00, but run from where Verbotten was up to the Plaza?

Maybe build a drawbridge to span "A"? :)

A bridge now eh?

Yes, having a street cut the village defeats the village concept, and if we share infrastructure like power, etc., (a pre-req) being all cozy would be essential.

Say, anyone know where that reed fence stuff can be found? I've asked around here and they give me a funny look. It's the same stuff that Ball Camp used.

Oh, and a tip I got- dump the regular carpet, and replace with boat carpet- people swear by it-- light, easy to transport (rolls tight), works, and cheap. Our Lowe's carries it.

That's Verboten with one"t"and as we have been in this
approximate space for last 4 years, and fairly well established
there,we may have different ideas. Please do not take offense
but we are not committed to the village idea at this time.

and inevitably yours if this is to happen for us.Not to worry though,

I'm just throwing this up in the air....If anyone thinks it may fly with your plans... Seems Outpost 23 have become unwanted on inside streets due to late night early morning partys, if there may be an esplanade room for a lil Camp After party they play great Psytrance, and are a great bunch of people as well.. All good friends of mine from the Bay...

I'll check back to hear what you may think on the subject..

Kisses & Hugs to all my friends becoming apart of this project in planning!!!

Don't know of Outpost 23.... info?

Where were they?

Is Outpost 23 looking for space near-on Esplanade? Was sound/volume in early am hours the blem for the camp with others? Could be here too. Need more info.

We have 4 camps as definate ins for the village idea, and 2 more considering... that's prolly gonna max the space as it is now... but that might change.

Hey, you are in Reno?

Outpost 23 was put in a poor location this year, around 9:05 & Anxious..
So Yes they should be a camp on or near the Esplanade, so that they may not be disturbing possible burning man sleepers..
I am in Sparks, But the most of them are from San Fran..
Some of them & I were able to meet the most of e-playa bar & I know Jellyfish.. I would not ask you all if these friends of mine weren't some really fun people..

I am sure these are nice people and all but may
have to go back on my vow to"stay close"if this
sort of camp joins in.Why not take Outpost 23
where it belongs,to sound art?

Where would sound art be placed... I'm just looking to help out some of my friends with a fun group of people who will not come and rip out thier sound system when they start a party.. They were very accomidating to those who complained a few nights they didn't even have thier music... they spent alot of time to set up Dj's they had to turn away because of the problem thier placement was giving them.. That Person Player made himself sound alot nicer than he really was when he showed up at thier camp..

If you have any suggestions please let me know!!
Thanks !!!

Well thanks for not taking that personal.Sound Art
is at 2:00 and/or 10:00.Noticed this year there were
not as many camps there as previous years and some good
spots could be had I imagine. There you could play
whatever, whenever and not piss anyone off.

Am trying to catch up - this thing is taking off like a brush fire in the Oakland Hills... So I'll use SG's post for an anchor to this stuff so far (may as well...)...

StevenGoodman wrote: >>>Would we want to make use of the frontage on A and B or basically have a wall of RVs?

I think we will want to use part of the "A" and "B" frontage, and all the plaza frontage.

Updated layout (in my previous post), between Apokiliptika and MASH being a shared courtyard, for entry and theatrics.

If we have a 1/2 block we can do frontage for damn near anyone. Best part is with that much bulk real estate we can work around logistics to prevent, say, what happened to the loyal and dedicated peoples under the benevolent guidance of a'vie, where they got some sawtooth slot. As luck would have it it worked OK for them, but if llc is going to do this I can't wait to see what's next. (You have a 100x100 space - 20x25 is at 3:30&b, 50x25 on 2:30 and C, etc...)

It gives the axis of terminal cooperation more control in self determination (of course, under the benevolent Killbuck line...)

Someone also wrote:

Part of the display SHOULD be a showcase/parking area for MV's. Like Akmed's Used Military Mutant Vehicle Sales, footwash, and Simtek fabrication services, llc. (Misspelling deliberate.) We put all this work into an MV we want to show it off.

Aside for a side note - the rules for fire this year was 10' minimum above agl, er, the playa. The ONLY exception was Luci-fer's fire caliopie, which gets as low as 7 or so, but she's been doing this so long and has this huge safety gig she does to make sure no one gets hurt. Anything new MUST have flame NLT 10'. TOugh on a pickup, unless you build a launch platform. Something to think about when designing.

OK - time to read on...

a'continuum on the sound scene...

I remember the hell of '05. We had the Fringe across from us which was a freaking nightmare. They ran over-legal sound constantly until they got their amps cooked (karma is a bitch, they did it to themselves as I understand!), on the other side was this entity called summer camp who also ran too hot music and kept everyone up all freaking night.(tho not as bad).

We decided at the close of last year that we would fight such loud shit in the future. This is not a slam on anyone's camp, but it made things really, really fucked for those of us in the middle. (Ask Maj. Roosevelt y cie.)

This year having Our loyal and awesome komrades-in-arms, Club Verboten, next to us was a dream. Their tunes (thanks to his excellency) were way loud enough to provide some awesome background music for our kamp and run their club like an east german paradise, yet I found that they did not overpower my earplugs or exhaustion.

Next year, and this is only a suggestion, I recommend that we CAREFULLY screen sound-oriented kamps in our axis to make sure they don't make us look like a fucking eardrum bleed station. Doing so will only make all of us look like the Fringe did in '05... and we don't want to be exiled out of our little slice of heaven.

Finally - the limit on sound off 2 and 10 is 300 watts and respect. If you can't do that, then you NEED to be out there. Actually, there needs to be more hot sound out there - it was really bare this year. But it can be done.

More later, gater...

Geez, I hate to say it.... but it's true...

Our village is being formed from Playa Fogies who need our sleep.... well at least a bit.... ahem.

I thought the sound camps at the 10 and 2 were sparce too. I recall 2003, when in my first burn, I thought that outer edge would be quiet... shit... did I get a surprise!!!!!! I took to setting off C4 charges in my sleep to break the rythm.

Was that Lush Camp at 2:00 this year?

Anyway, good points BB.... plazas are interactivity locations, not large sound. We remember Summer Camp.... at least they would talk to us, all the folks at Fringe were too deaf. Nice folks, just deaf.

OH!!!!! Here's a thought BB and I just discussed:

Ahem.... AHEM!!!!!!

Attention leaders of the Gang of 4- (APOKILIPTIKA, Bar Camp, Mash Camp, Esspresso Camp)...

Contact me at my email (available in my profile) for we will start in near future, a tribe private site so as to discuss boring details off of eplaya.... sure, it would be nice to hit 200,000 hits again, but that's not needed when discussing sundry details of village dirty laundry (ya know, getting your laundry dirty is alot more fun that cleaning it). We will of course keep this thread for the masses to drool over. So, gimme a holler at your conv.

For everything? I know of multiple approved flame effects that were not 10' above ground. Including a bunch at the place right around the corner on the Esplanade...

Example, the flaming tetherball, most of Flaming Lotus Girls serpent, etc.

You just become a mobile art installation, and not a mutant vehicle. That way you can have fire safety people before you use it? Otherwise I just have to make it BIGGER so it is farther off the ground? And dumping out 4x is so much propane will make it safer?

2:00 was sparse this year. It would have been sparse last year except for the big BORG2 "and friends" zone in the middle. This year I went out on Burn night and there was tons of empty 2:00 frontage. And no playa art like last year.

>>>Was that Lush Camp at 2:00 this year?

Opulent Village was at Esplanade and 2:00, same as last year. Lush was there in 2004.

10:00 was a lot more crowded, louder, etc. Which, I expect, is why Blunderland/Playland had problems.
