What no tai chi?

What no tai chi?

Postby Dr_Lighthouse » Thu Oct 20, 2011 8:57 pm

Hi

Virgin here loooking forward to attending in 2012 where I will be best nman at a friends wedding (he and his bride are experienced Burners). Very excited about coming and looking forward to getting involved.

I have a couple of things to contribute..

Tai Chi/Qigong - I searched the listings for the 2011 event and while there was lots of yoga and other healthy activities I could find no evidence of anyone running Tai Chi or Qigong sessions - I teach Tai Chi in the UK and am currently in China for a year studying with various grandmasters/mistrisses and wopuld love to offer my services at Bruning Man if anyone is interested. Perhaps someone can let me know how to do this.

VJ & Filmmaker - I am a VJ with a few years exerience having started back in the 1980s. I would love to offer my services to anyone with facilities and a need for visuals. I also have collections of short films from screenings I have run over the last few years in the UK and could put together a programme of short films if anyone wants to hold a screening.

I may try and volunteer as well but am looking into that...

Any advice or suggestions welcome.

I had chai tea almost every day I was out there.

I'm fairly certain folks were doing Tai chi at the Temple during sunrise, mid-week...

Choose or arrange a venue/location, day and time;
post to the Who/What/Where/When guide when it goes live for 2012 (June/July)...

Voila!

Since it's your first year, I suggest doing this only once... maybe 4 days into your visit;
This allows 3 days for playa shock to subside, without getting far enough into the week that you're exhausted from your adventures...

Good luck, and welcome!

Hi Dr. Lighthouse!

I like gaminwench's recommendation of leading some tai chi late in the week, once you've acclimated.

Check out the 2012 Art & Performance Thread. It has an "Artists Seeking Stages" and "Stages Seeking Artists" (and it would be fine to post there whether it's films or tai chi). For films, you would probably have to bring your own equipment.

You could also teach/lead at Center Camp:
http://www.burningman.com/participate/c ... mance.html

Or have a listing in the What/When/Where guide to the event, which gets compiled in May or June of next year, and have people come to you. If you join this email newsletter, you'll probably receive an alert about when to submit your item:
http://www.burningman.com/blackrockcity ... lists.html

You could also just put out a sandwich board listing "Tai Chi, Tuesday/Thursday @ Sunset" or do it spontaneously anywhere there's a crowd, & see if anyone joins you. :)

Welcome to ePlaya.

What they all said :) And I'll add that for every single listing you see on the site, there are dozens of additional events and happenings going on throughout the city every day. If nothing else, you could likely just stop by the temple or at center camp on any given day and easily connect with several people interested in tai chi.

Hello and welcome to Eplaya.
This is one of those things i've always wanted to try. It would be just lovely to learn from someone at burningman.

Check again, I saw at least three listings for Tie Chi. One was the Red Power style, I've forgotten the others.

Start this morning with the whu chi horse rider..

Hold it as long as you can.
extend the time each morning for a week..
Transfer the pain in the the legs to the rooting of your feet to the earth..

There is no wrong way to practice tai chi..

.............................................................................................

Keep your nose to the grind stone, your sholder to the wheel and your ear to the ground.. Now lets see you work in that position..
