VIDEO INTERNSHIP @ BURNING MAN SUMMARY:

ON PLAYA:

Provide Video Documentation of the Center Camp Cafe Speaker Series; District Everywhere’s Evening Program; and the L.O.V.E. Project (A Living Organism, Volunteering and its Evolution at Burning Man.) Work involves shooting video in the morning, afternoon and/or the evenings. A video team and a schedule will be formed so shifts can be shared/signed up for and distributed. Gain experience working in a creative and collaborative environment on-playa during the Burning Man event. Work involves strong videography skills, people skills, a good sense of video storytelling and visual and ability to function well in a high pressure environment.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Be part of a team that documents three fun elements of the Burning Man Event: the Center Camp Speaker Series; District Everywhere evening events; and the L.O.V.E. Project.

Descriptions and shooting schedules for each video project follow:

The Center Camp Speaker Series

Two participant-fed speaker programs will run pretty much back to back on two different stages of Center Camp Cafe every morning of the event from Tuesday-Sunday. The early morning session, called Training for a (r)evolution will feature short ted-talk style presentations, approximately 15-20 minutes in length from 9am-11am. The midday speaker session, called the Performance Stage Speaker series, will feature 1 presentation each day from 11:30 am- 12:30pm. This presentation will run approx 40-45 minutes long with a 15-20 minute Q&A.

Technial Requirements: Two Video Cameras, attached to Audio Boards. Interviews will be mic’d, mixed, recorded and distributed through BMIR.

DISTRICT EVERYWHERE EVENTS

Once again, the outreach groups of Burning Man (Burners Without Borders, The Black Rock Arts Foundation, Black Rock Solar and The Regional Network) have teamed up to create a unified presence on the playa: District Everywhere! Located at 6:30 and Esplanade, the outreach groups share a pavilion and host a series of parties for the general public every afternoon and evening of the event. We are looking for videographers to shoot the party, conduct short interviews and enjoy themselves.

Wednesday 4-7 REGIONAL PARTY

Thursday CORE EFFIGY BURN (at the Man)

Friday 1-4 Burning Nerds PARTY

TECH REQUIREMENTS: 1 ROVING CAMERA, Interviews, possible mic/lav.

The L.O.V.E. Project

L.O.V.E. provides an opportunity to record the spirit of civic participation by featuring some of the most dedicated team members, the volunteer coordinators. This project is developed by the Volunteer Squadron as an initiative to honor the history of civic participation at Burning Man by creating an archive and, by consistently recording its growth and development. We hope to capture some of the most engaging and touching stories that the playa has known!

LOVE PROJECT VIDEO SCHEDULE (To Be Determined)

PRE-EVENT, DURING THE EVENT AND POST-EVENT

-Shoot civic engagement/participation projects at various city ‘sites’ as assigned.

-Perform interview with candidates as specified by project template.

-Collaborate with project editor to produce high quality, usable material.

TECH REQUIREMENTS: Video Camera, Lav’s or other audio recording device.

QUALIFICATIONS

*Video shooting and/or editing experience

*A portfolio of previous video work

*Audio Production experience: comfort with microphones, lavaleers

*Ability to uphold deadlines

*Familiarity with Burning Man

*Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations

PREFERRED

*Experience at the Burning Man event

*Experience with video shooting at Burning Man

*Video Equipment to Donate (definitely not required, but we are looking for more video recording tools!)

REQUIRED

*Video Intern must be able to attend long distance meetings before the event (via skype or telephone); must be able to check in and register with Media Mecca/Rosalie Volunteer Wrangler by Tuesday of the Event; and must be able to shoot for Burning Man at least two days between Monday night August 29, 2011 through Friday, September 2nd, 201, and taking on at least 4 video shifts. Those working on the L.O.V.E. Project should be able to come to Burning Man starting August 22, 2011.

*All video content belongs to Burning Man at the end of the event.
