dubstep isn't defined by just wahwahwahwah dunk tap

no, its not required, but you cant argue it hasnt been a main element historically. i suggest that, bare minimum, dubstep requires a 70 bpm feel, with an emphasis on the 3rd beat (often via some sort of snare hit).

mama fox, no hangups, i just think we disagree on what open-minded means.

I feel being-opened minded allows you to love or hate whatever music you want, but it seems your open-minded permits the genre-labeling of tracks however you like, which i contend is silly.

but for reals, i just like to argue about music, it seems like you dont care

Alas, we shall miss Rusko in our town due to the show being on a Tuesday night

Certainly the part that's way too repetitive for my taste, and probably defines 'popular' dubstep is the wahwahwahs, I would argue that it doesn't define the genre, rather, the other things you mentioned like the 70bpm feel and 3rd beat emphasis define it. It is half speed drum and bass after all.

Can you share who the artist is? I would love to hear it.

Sure, its a mix called "Stratagem" by (in my opinion) one of Sacramento's best DJs skillwise, Jon Evolve. For this mix he worked with MC Entitee. Here's the info from his mix post elsewhere:

Then you either haven't heard Bassnectar on a good system or you haven't heard it live. (Or maybe you just don't like rhythmic music?)

Since I'm in my 30s, it feels like being present at events like that and not doing anything is providing consent for it to happen somehow, makes me uncomfortable.

I'm in my 30's and I'm not sure what this means. You're uncomfortable at events like what? What kind of events are you going to?

Dolomite - There are certainly lots of talented people in Cali so your statement says something about this DJ. Thank you for the info and definitely extra props for the soundcloud link (it is the only online music streaming site my job has yet to black list :()

JStep - I will definitely agree on the good system part. And the times I have experienced his music live was with my friend Molly so I enjoyed it. Not sure what to say about the "rhythmic music" part since I have not really figured out what it is I do not enjoy about his sets.

I grew up in a Hispanic country surrounded by music from my heritage so I would like to believe I am able to enjoy any style of music that has good rhythm but will have to research this deeper to be sure. Thanks for the food for thought :)

I like some music from almost every genre, but I'm having a hard time loving dubstep. I want to love it, because it's becoming so prevalent, but it doesn't make me feel all tingly, and when I try to dance to it, I get all awkward and wonky (wonk wonk). So if Dubstep is the next AOL, does that mean my gramma is going to be whomp whomping? So I don't hate it, but let's just say, I'm kinda happy some people hate it, because at least that means it won't be everywhereeeeee.

Thanks for that 16 Bit clip though, I liked that.

They should change the name to "Fartstep." The bass line sounds like butt song. It's flatulence music.
