I'd just like to put this here, and it's actually the appropriate forum for it.

First off, there are no "rules" for wearing a kilt, one could get into the use of the language around kilts ("commando" and "regimental") being slang invented by the English and thus the language of the oppressor culture, but that's immaterial.

I wear underwear with my kilt, and I encourage others to do so.
I do it for three reasons
1) I am not so blessed as to have "male thigh gap" and frankly if it's too hot or too humid I'd rather no deal with the chafing on my thighs.
2) In non burning man situations politeness demands that you not allow an errant gust of wind to expose your cock to those who have not asked to see it.
3) This one if the most important: ASS PRINTS. 8 times out of 10 when wearing a kilt and sitting down your ass or your balls are going to be in contact with the surface you're sitting on. If we encourage naturalists to bring a towel so they don't get their sweat, smears, dingleberries or crabs on our furniture, then we should encourage kilt wearers to do the same.

As it should be, because most pairs hang lop-sided. Avocado stems from the Aztec word for testicle, because avocados grow in pairs, with one hanging lower than its mate.

(Please forgive the cross-posting. This is medical information that may be important to some people.)

:!:
A word of CAUTION about sunshine if you take certain medications, including some over-the-counter products.

Some chemicals cause the skin to become extra sensitive to sun, resulting in unexpected sunburn and even "sun allergy" rashes. Trans-dermal patches may be the worst problem, which can cause bright red -- and painful -- spots where the patches have been recently. And a number of regular medications -- that is, pills -- cause a lesser degree of increased sunburn.

More information about photo-toxicity on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photodermatitis

I believe we can add Effexor / Venlafaxine to the list of pills.

If this may apply to you, please be careful. And tell your friends too.

Me, I'm doubling my sunscreen budget! :D

I'm taking hydrochlorothiazide (HCT, HZT?) and it has a sun warning. I am already wearing sunblock and loose clothes, but sun on my skin feels uncomfortable quickly.

Maybe the Saudi veils I am bringing will get more use than I anticipated.

I may also have to resort to covering up. But where to get suitable clothing on three days' notice? Regular western street clothes are so uncomfortable. Maybe pajamas from the local Cheap-Mart?

I'm under doctors orders to cover up.. Jammies and scrubs are good..Gas welder safety sleeves for lower arms (good while driving too).. #50 zinc sun screen on the face and hands.. Big (bell shaped) straw hat when the sun is low and in your eyes.
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

:D
Success! No sunburn -- even with the meds making me extra sensitive to sun.

Thanks to industrial quantities of SPF 100 sunscreen, I suffered no sunburn in my 16 days on Playa, going nude much of the time.
Of course, I also spent most of that nude time under shade. The time and cost and effort of building big shade is so very much worth it.
And the gradual pre-tanning of the pale bits was time well spent.

I found lotions much preferable to spray cans. With the entire body to cover, the spray gets everywhere, such as in eyes and lungs. White lotion made best sense, as it was easiest to judge the thickness of application.

At times, I covered the red spots from the trans-dermal patches with sticks-to-itself "ace" bandage. (On upper arms.)

Freedom from the constrictions of clothing is such a treat! The few bucks for "a case" of SPF 100 is trivial price to pay.
