thanks guys and gal, i've been trying to write a response without hijacking the thread completely. CAn we just say i am not surprised at you Eric for agreeing with me disagreement is not hatred or dislike. and fishy i dont want to bottle BM nor contain it, i know from past experience you cant explain something to someone thats never done it (try explaining an acid trip to someone that hasn't done it) in the other post i was trying (and failing it seems) to disagree with the concept of bottled burning man. A little example if it helps, If Eric packed all my clothes food and shelter for BM then chose my campsite and showed me around the sites it wouldn't be my experience would it? (no dig at you Eric i could of said SotP)

Anyway Kit i love your blogs and lexicon made me want to be there and my new favorite phrase is cuddle puddle, i want that all the time.

One of the things I love about the Burn culture is the way all the petty arguments of the online world tend to fade away when we're all together on the playa. Enjoy the event!

Today on A Burner Lexicon, the Ten Principles of Burning Man:

I am still soliciting opinions on the principles, individually or all 10. If you have something to say on this topic, get in touch with me!

I totally support Simon's proposed 11th principle.

Today, however, A Burner Lexicon examines Radical Inclusion, including guest opinions from three other Burners:
http://kitoconnell.com/lexicon-radicalinclusion/

I am still looking for Burners to submit their own opinions on the 10 Principles, in whole or in part, for inclusion in future posts.

I so don't understand that grammatical correction given the use of past tense.

Still open to opinions on any of the 10 Principles. I'd love to hear from more people outside of Texas. Even if we do have a kickass regional. ;)

Kit, Being from New York, i have to abide by my states motto, which is "Texas Sucks"...

so, i'll forgive your geographical transgressions, and just say that we kill and butcher "rennies" and serve them on rye bread with sauerkraut and russian dressing.

with pickle, of course....and we leave no trace as to avoid prosecution.

I guess I am confused whether you have a specific criticism of rennies, me or what I wrote or just wanted to be generically snarky?

nothing unusual, i was just being from New York...

now, changing gears, can we discuss use of the word "Epic" on the Playa, and elsewhere, and how and when it applies?

i'm really getting sick of all the false advertising, describing "epic" and "massive" when it's actually only "Sorta cool" and "Kinda big"...

should "Epic" be reserved for those truly EPOCHAL or epic (ie, like something so WTF it only happens every two thousand years) types of events or people or groups of people that just transcend history, or can we throw it around willy-nilly to describe joe the plumbers ass crack.

as a cunning linguist, i would hope you have the answer, that would be epic.

i mean awesome.

shit, i mean it would would be sorta nice if you could weigh in on this assault on the importance of importance.

thank you, have a massive day.

The first recorded example of shirt-cocking occurred on the morning after the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906:

A man, clad only in a shirt that reached to his middle, came dashing down the street.

"can we discuss use of the word "Epic" on the Playa"

I have a problem with the use of "super" as in:

super cool
super friendly
super helpful
super souper

whatever. Everyone can't be "super" and usually the word "very" will do just as well.

Personally, I found the people lieing down to lap liquor in the gutter to be the highlight of that article. Ah, degradation, do you ever grow old?

Are both shirt cocking and gutter-liquor-drinking acts of radical self-expression?

A newspaper I worked on ran a pictorial of highly popular, overly hip night spots with people posed as hookers and one with a drunk lying in the gutter in front.
There were some complaints.

very interesting entry kit...The question and answer come to mind.

DON'T FUCK WITH OTHER PEOPLES BURN.

how do these two principles, Radical Self-Expression and not Fucking With Peoples Burn Coincide in harmony?

an analogy....if you don't like the show, change the station.

Broadcasters, dont bump into others frequencies, or at least offer the option of walking away.

some people like being hassled, some don't. Some get the Joke, Some Don't.

some understand, some misunderstand, often times, puns go right over the heads of Europeans or foreigners, and a lot of Newbs.

do your schtick, but be sensitive and respectful of those that don't want to see it...

you have the right to be yourself, you don't have the right to FORCE someone into uncomfortable or awkward situations, they ALWAYS have the right to say "No, thank you" and walk away unaccosted and on friendly terms.

be nice to each other, even if your viewpoints and ideas of what is Fun, what is Art and what is Sex may differ.

We are a vast collection of the Extreme and the Fringe, the Island of Misfit Toys who for one week a year come together to celebrate our differences, and in turn just how much the human condition applies to us all.

the two can co-exist, i've seen it happen.

our job is to enforce the unenforceable, to bear the unbearable lightness of being, to live and let live, peacefully and respectfully.

so far, i think Black Rock City is doing a damn good job towards this end.

imho.

Simon: You had some good things to say. Can I quote you in an addendum to that entry?

We often say 'you are responsible for your own experience' at the Burn, but should we also perhaps add: 'and you are responsible for seeing that your jackassery doesn't fuck up other people's burns?'

Kit, this primary rule goes way back to the olden days. You might dig about for the original quote from The Hat (which see). I think it's along the lines of "Do not interfere with another person's experience".
