Spontaneous firework displays, dirt bikes and quads...

Postby burningquestions » Mon Aug 02, 2010 12:20 am

outside of the city...

My individuality (My Zen) requires that I ride dirt bikes, light large firework displays, and get seriously impaired (after those aforementioned activities). It is my religion. It is my creed.

Is Burning man for me? Is there a place for me and my fellow travelers here?

You might be a few years late. Have you seen the various lists of rules at this thing? The "progressives" have taken over and they are thinking and plotting. The result of all these thinks and plots will likely be even more rules. I mean, what is the point of the thinking and plotting if you don't want your plotted outcome to come to be? In order for that to happen, the people must be told what is expected of them and how they are supposed to be. The era of "it is what it is" is slipping farther and farther away. Submit to the machine.

I will not submit. I will not not go quietly. I WILL be myself.

But I'm a little disturbed at the lack of response to my direct questions. Why the PC guys? Step up to the plate. Don't be sheeple.

You can do all that you wrote that you want to do ... outside the BLM exclusion zone that surrounds the event. If you want to go to the playa that week and camp outside the exclusion zone, you can ride your bikes, shoot your fireworks, etc. You can't do that inside the event. That's the rules.

If you want to create Camp Burnier Than Thou a couple of miles out on the playa there's nobody stopping you.

you can crash your dirtbike on the way in causing the fireworks in your backpack to explode; then you will be seriously impaired.

It's quite a bit different than your average dirt bike trip to the desert. I love going out in the desert by myself and screwing around too but this just isn't the same thing. Besides, the fireworks displays there are way more elaborate than anything you could possibly set off yourself. :D

yeah, I'd say, ride your bike and camp on top of one of the high, surrounding mountains...........you can make lots of noise, and, set off all your fireworks, and, everyone in the city will be able to see you........
and, you'll not impact BRC as far as BLM issues related to the permit.
Probably, once you start the display, most of the city will stop what they're doing and point...........and watch. We all love new, shiny, burning things.
and, then, you'll begin a new tradition of anti-BRC and they probably name it after you.

carry on........

No. You will not be able to indulge your "zen" at Burning Man.
I will not submit. I will not not go quietly. I WILL be myself.

No one's asking you to submit to anything. Burning Man does not have a space to do what you want to do. So don't come. There are plenty of places that do support what you want to do. Go there instead.

Well ... At least you asked before you arrived.

There is an exclusion zone around the city that no one is allowed in. http://www.burningman.com/preparation/b ... tions.html When caught, you will get a citation and if attitude is not good, possibly banned from the event.

Quads & Motorbikes are not to be driven in the event (might not be allowed into the city). Motorbikes are only allowed into the city if they are your primary mode of transportation. http://www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/ ... iving.html

Entry and exit to the city is through the main gate. I believe there is a $20 fee for re-entry into the event.

Fire works are not allowed at Burning Man. There are a whole lot of tents and lets face it, falling burning stuff and tents do not really mix.

Check out the survival guide for more info: http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... index.html

There are not really very many rules compared to anywhere else, but these rules are important for everyone's safety..

Yeah, you won't be running over anything alive out there unless it is someone else's tent. NOTHING lives out on that playa, not even a blade of grass. Sometimes the wind will blow a dragonfly over from the frog pond, but that's about it.

Well, I take that back. There does seem to be a species of beetle I have seen that lives in the cracks of the playa. Only seen 'em a few times.

I don't know, do we count sea monkeys in their dessicated phase as alive?

And does anything make you look like an unthinking, self-rightious asshole faster than the use of the term "sheeple"?

Interesting. Must be because the event is so close to the edge of the playa these days.

I guess we are a long way from the days when the gate would give you compass headings and mileage counts to find the place.

Eh, I guess I am an unthinking self-rightous asshole because I believe there are entirely too many sheeple these days. The ones who need to be told practically everything and are afraid of doing anything of their own initiative without being told to or asking if it is "ok" are a product of being conditioned to just do as your told and try not to think for yourself. People who think for themselves are always a pain in the ass to the powers that be.

I believe the closure rules have something to do with the BLM permit for the burn... It also makes things a fair bit safer since all of the entry/exit traffic is along a fenced path.

Geekster, yeah, but when someone comes into a forum, starts off with an aggressive question ("Why the hell isn't your event the event I want?!?!?") and then when someone (you, in this case) attempts to give him a polite answer, comes back with "Don't be sheeple!" then "unthinking, self-rightious asshole" is more polite than what I'd call him.

(I know, I know, don't feed the trolls. I can be such a sucker some times)

Perhaps I should have said that use of the term "sheeple" indicates to me someone who is too lazy to find common ground with someone who disagrees or even to admit such is human and who takes the easy way out.

Edited for spelling.

One of my fantasies is building a wooden outhouse out on the playa beyond the exclusion area. Use an electric fuel injector to atomize kerosene inside. Then turn on the oxygen bottle. Then hit the spark plug and KA-BOOM! Right at about the middle of the fire conclave performance.

Make the top weak so it comes out looking like a huge mushroom cloud. Maybe even time the spark with a half a fuckton of xenon strobes, the kind they have on smokestacks and power pylons, to produce a giant bluish white flash at the same time.

But it would probably result in many people soiling their last clean change of clothes so I just sigh ... and go back to sleep.

There were large ka-booms at Roach Lake during Dark Skies, enough so people in cars on I-15 were calling 911. BLM won't let any of the Vegas burners have events on their local playas anymore.
