Give me a break. I don't hear you complaining about the ashes from the Man burning, the temple burning, the burn barrels, the camp fires, etc, etc, etc. Cigarette butts I can understand but ashes? Cmon already.

Leave some trace?
Leave traces of ash?
Leave no trace except when you think it might be ok?
Leave justified traces?

LEAVE NO TRACE is very simple. Come on now people. Once it breaks down it's hard to fix.

It may seem ridiculous to think cig ashes are bad to drop, but think of it more as a guiding principle that EVERYTHING you brought should go home with you. Ashes lead to butts, butts lead to cans and bottles and so on....

The man and the temple get special permission due to their artistic nature. :)

Hey Bitterfuck, The areas of barrels, man, temple, etc. get THROUGHLY cleaned the ground scooped up, and they are contained in one area.

Ashes are EVERYWHERE and random, and it is your way of thinking and your "aww come on how bad could it be" attitude that is exactly the problem, thanks for contributing...

Oh and I am a smoker too, I just do my part

This is not my opinion, I have spoken to the BLM, ask other leaders of Burning Man, leave no trace means leave no trace, period.

Sorry to Harp, its out of love!

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. If ashes just lead to ashes, then what?

The areas of barrels, man, temple, etc. get THROUGHLY cleaned the ground scooped up, and they are contained in one area.

Also stupid. Have you ever watched a burn? Have you ever watches ashes get lifted by the heat or blown? I'm not a smoker and I think ashing on the playa is just fine. Butts are another thing though. If you think cigarette ashes are so bad you should be protesting all other burns which are 100's if not 1000's of times worse than all the ashing going on.

Gotta say, the ash from all the myriad burning things gets all over--and there's no way around that.

You smoke? Your cigarette sheds ash the entire time it's burning--not just when you tap it.

Butts are one thing--ash another.

We should always remember that Leave No Trace actually means Leave As Little Trace As Is Humanly Possible.

There's a whole lot left on the playa that no one ever thinks about. Skin. House dust, rubber debris

Do your best--don't worry yourself insane over it.

*yawn*
Once again: ice is mandated by the health department and proceeds are given to local charities. Coffee supports the cafe space which is something Larry likes and functions as a public space for the shy to get involved with others when they don't feel they have the permission to walk into camps and start talking to people.

We should have to wear moonsuits, since we shed skin and skin mites, hair, and little bits of fecal matter (eewww). LNT. Probably a shitload of carbon dropping out of our cars. Best thing is if we just did little Burning Man silent prayers in our own living rooms.

ASH? From cigarettes? I think if all 50k folks smoked 2 packs a day and dropped their ash on the playa, one would be hard pressed to find any, even with the best of instruments. Butts, yes. Ash? Hmmm.

My carpool did stop at Walmart in Reno i went in and it was the biggest Walmart i had ever seen and i am from L.A. The shelves were all empty and the Bruners were packing it all in the parking lots.

Re WalMart:
i have never spent a single fucking dime there and will not until they can convince me that they are no longer the great satan.
Yeah, they have stuff cheaper, but it's far too ethically expensive for me personally. I'm not gonna give you shit for it, but i do not and will not shop there for anything at all.

Re coffee:
Because i'm not competent to make coffee until i've had coffee. :nod
Also it gives the morning people something to do instead of rousting my sorry ass outta bed.
I'm just trying not to be liveMOOP...

Looks like everyone has successfully adjusted back to life in the normal world.

The first week after the event, the e-playa is a dumping ground for the usual hippie love posts, which are then followed by the complaints and "fuck you's" a week later.

I put some thought into this, and I think six Daisy Cutter bombs, one dropped over each portal, at 6:00 and J, and one on Center Camp would obliterate Burning Man, if done during the festival. A coordinated attack from the east, an hour after sunrise on Saturday would probably catch a lot of folks at their most vulnerable, as well, but a nighttime bomb run would be a little more "burnier". Did that help? Can I have my gift now?

See, now I was thinking about a steam-roller MV before I even saw this thread. It would take interactivity to a whole new level.

It's better than the daisy cutters because it could be followed by mutant loaders and dump trucks. Leave no trace you know.

You want to know where all them little bits of Mooop go???

Drive to the North East end of the playa. This is where we camp for the Land SPeed record attempt. theres nothing but little bits of paper, foam, and tons and tons of burnt wood - little pieces about the size of a nickle.
