Booze counts as progress! :)

In the last couple weeks I got three batches of limoncello started. I also finally got around to pulling together my notes and writing the process down and posted it on my camp's web site. If you like, you can check that recipe out here.

I'll share some of the pics though, so you can see the process of turning lemons into limoncello.

I found this photo of a trailer I think is identical to my Mantra trailer.
The guy listed it as a bass boat trailer.
Am I mistaken in thinking this is not the average boat trailer?
The Mantra is rear heavy with nearly no weight up front.
The photo won't stay up since I don't know how to load it as an attachment.

well, I got a start on the brick frame for the shutters/windows on the Hof. I'm trying to make them zombie resistant, by running a 1/2" rebar vertically drilling it into to the footing, and two 1/4" galvanized steel wire rods on the outer channel, parallel, anchoring each by hooking with 1/4" rod, inserted into the block wall every foot or so, this, also tied into a wire mesh within an inch or so of concrete, between the brick and wall, anchored there by brick ties in the block wall, as well:
*note*, I make no claim at being a brick layer, but hope I can make it strong.

I'm rushing about, trying to get some stuff, and work done, so I can have a party up there.
I think I've cured most of the smoke issue in the stove, by extending the pipe upwards about 8', and blocking the outflow from the cap.

if I can get lined up, it'll prolly be Nov. to be realistic.

This project was a fun little thing to tinker around with. At our place, we've got some high tech LED lighting in place... 'smart bulbs' if you will. There's a little base controller for the lights that plugs into our wifi router, and then we can have up to 50 of these LED bulbs that talk to it (we've just got 5). The bulbs go into any normal light socket, and they'll do the normal on/off to white light if we flip the switch. But we leave them on, and can then control them either from a web site or an app on our devices. Full RGB lighting, we can go with color palettes, some pre-fab settings, or we can load in our own pictures and dial up our own lighting scenes. Now that fall's getting here it's getting dark earlier, and since I needed to turn on the lights before the timer was scheduled for summertime, I played around with making a new lighting scheme based on one of my favorite pics from the temple burn.

Image

Fun stuff. It's a nice warm atmosphere, and knowing where the color palette's from brings me back to the playa. :)

I spent most of today destroying my bathroom in the name of science! Top secret project is go. I'm all set to show a small-scale prototype to about 70% of my camp at a costume party tomorrow night. Exciting times are afoot.

Just wondering, but should we have a WIP 2014 page? For burning related projects? Or maybe keep this one going?
Regardless I'm planing out a mail box system for 120+ campmates, and a new shade for a new section of camp. On the long shot list is a drone with a net, and a new living structure that doubles as an observation tower.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...

Playapod part Dux update!!!

Got my window built.

Image

But what you may ask is that thing under the window?

I'm glad you asked.

IT'S A TABLE!!! 8)

I didn't put the roof coating on the work surface cause it dries with a texture, so I'll finish it with polyurathane.

I liked it so much that I put one on the inside as a desk and end table for my bed.

The hooks holding the tables in the closed possition are just shy of needing a pair of pliers to turn them, so everything should stay put while traveling! 8)

@C187... this thread is for on or off playa projects, we just like sharing and following others along on the progress of their art, crafts, and DIY awesomeness. I thought about splitting this (and the other superthreads) off into 2014 season versions, but haven't had much time to get to them. Feel free to keep on posting here, when the split happens I'll post a link to the new thread in the last post here, and then a link back to this thread in the first post of the new one.

@FIGJAM... the tables look great!

Sits nice and level.

I'll weigh it monday to see if I have to alter the wheel wells to put bigger tires on.

Figjam It's hard to tell for sure from the picture but it looks like your springs are close to being flattened out. I wonder if adding an extra leaf or two would give you enough lift for larger tires?

Ulisse, you can't see the spings in that pic, but they're barely sprung. 8)

Ratty, I did add a shelf over the bed, but I like the white as it is so reflective that any small light illuminates the whole interior.

Saves on power. 8)

Just took the new pod for a 100 mile test drive over various grades and speeds up to 75mph.

The tires and hubs didn't even get warm.

The truck alone gets 14 to 15 mpg.

Last trip to the playa with the old pod I averaged 9 to 10 mpg.

This pod weighs almost 1000 pounds more, but I got 12 mpg.

With more living space and the storage room I'd call it a success.

Cost was about 75 cents a pound to build!

Wonderful stuff, FIGJAM! Any interest in adding a roll-up shade structure on the sides? (Or do you typically camp under a larger tarp?).

On a different note, all my trailers have the waterproof axle caps with grease zerks in the middle. Before every trip, and daily during a trip, I pump a few more squirts in each cap and then wipe-off the excess on the back side. Have never lost a bearing after I fitted these caps. Remarkably simple and effective.

I point the truck directly at the sun as it peeks over the hills, then set up "The Shade"!

The top rack slides out 8' for the extra shade.

Same set up as the old pod.

Takes abot 45 minutes to completely set up camp. 8)

Picture was taken at about noon and you can see the side is shaded. (south side)

I was carrying 1"x14' long square tubeing to slide through the rack for the shade.

This ment strapping 4 long sections to the rack on the truck for transport.

Image

Now the new rack has 1 3/8" fence rail welded for the cross pieces, and I cut 7' long pieces of 1"EMT to replace the long sections.

I love the fit as they can't rattle in the wind.

Image

Image

OOPS! Won't fit on the floor of the storage!!! :x

Image

Simple!

Screw a piece of leftover plywood to the center rafter with a twist hook on either side so they can't fall out.

Image

Now they can stay in the pod all the time, but are conveniently out of the way. 8) 8) 8)

Put some steps on the slanting roof and call the space "Harry Potter's mobile room under the stairs". Rent it to a small English parentless child who is tired of living with muggles, but still likes small cozy spaces . :D Excuse me, but every time I see the picture I see Harry peeking out.

well, I got the chimney extension up and on and working.........
it really takes "all the photos" to tell the strory, and I feel that is too many to put here (41), so, I'll post one, and then link to the photobucket to see them in order.

It does seem to work well though.
It's 8" sheet metal pipe, 4 layers of them nested, a twirly bop thing and reinforcement straps. dang, it only seems to weigh about 80 lbs, but at 11' long, it was sure unwieldy!!
