I've lost it

That feeling of inspiration, abandonment, and wonderment. it's gone. My job has sucked it out of me.
I am stuck in the worst job I've had in a while. I'm editing a show for Lifetime Television. Argh!!!
It is the most boring, stupid, contrived, technically bad thing I've done in a long time. I cant focus. I cant concentrate. I cant care. I have 4 more weeks and I dont think I will make it. I need vacation sooo bad. It's affecting my easy going character.

feeling the pain

Postby spaceboy » Fri Nov 21, 2003 2:08 pm

I feel you my man. I freelance design, and I have taken on some projects recently that offer no creative input and are laking in any inspirational value. But my friend, think of it this way: it's a paycheck closer to getting home in 2004.

And remember this: it could always be worse.

Please remove the comma from the preceding sentence.

While I'm sure that you, left to your own devices, could wring some good from this project I'm thinking that your customer/boss is the real source of your angst. No?

Well, there's always revenge. Let's imagine the possibilities...

* Accidently erase the master just before delivery.
* Displace the sound track 1/2 a second ahead of the video.
* Secretly switch the tape at the last minute to Un Chien Andalou.
* Your seuggestion here:_________________________________.

Can I just say that I once was a researcher for the X Games? Talk about stoopid. The producers bust your balls over minute stuff that will never reach the air and the audience is too stoned to notice anyway.

But back to the subject of revenge--you could always splice choice bits of porno into those master tapes. This is also great if you hate the religious school where you teach.
It ain't the hanging, it's the drop.

Yes it could be worse, you could be trapped in the Retail cespool!

'tis the season to be rude, bitchy, stressed-out, ______________ (fill in the blank)

This being my 10th year in retail, the holidays have become such a blur of people bitching me out and endless hours and six day work weeks....I need a vacation! I would probably give a kidney to be editing a lifetime movie (no matter how much cheeese had to be endured).

The moral of my little rant, is as you venture out on your shopping trips this holiday season, please be kind to your freindly retail worker. (The ones that aren't friendly....well I will leave that to your own accord)

I hear you so much. People think it is so great to be in a "creative" profession, but somehow, having to do crappy ( yet somehow, impossibly still callled "creative" <<< the following is me thinking about simalar jobs that I do >>> do you think I really want to be painting your $5 million dollar los gatos house while I live in a one bedroom in fremont with no heat, while you argue about the price? do you think I find that rewarding? Do you reallly think your spa brochure is a creative outlet for me? ) work is what pays the bills most of the time. Last night ai was dropping some stuf foff for a show, and I met this guy whao actualy MAKES HIS LIVING doing art, ( as opposed to me, who will probably break even sometime in the next couple years ) and his stuff was hella boring, and he was way more disorganised than I am. His secret: he has an agent. I say for the next 4 weeks rave and drop E every weekend.
OH and I so hear the retail thing too, I saw my bills this morning and was about ready to head to radio shack for a seasonal gig. What super sucks is I have to lie about having a degree to get a retail gig. ( I have to say I dont have one)
I took the road less traveled, and now I would like to go back and find the paved one.
