How not to get scammed buying tickets

Postby bruce_w » Fri Aug 23, 2013 1:50 pm

So I'm @ the Reno airport and met this guy passing through selling tickets for $200. He said they are will call and he can give me the email confirm, a copy of his ID, an hand written note of sale, and the last 4 digits of the card used to purchase. I asked if I can go with him to the will call line and he said he can't do that b/c he has hard tickets and his group wont wait for him???

Basically my question is how do I know this isn't a scam......I mean all he can give me is a email and a few copies??? Is that right?? Isn't there supposed to be some sort of ticket to go with it???

Also I've read a couple threads on will call tickets and the procedure "sounds" right but........I would really rather have the person with me @ the gate. Am I asking for too much here??

Did you talk to him about burning man, etc?
Answers make sense?

Follow your gut.
Get ID and a photo if you buy.
I'd offer to pay him on the other side of the will call office.
Can't see why he wouldn't go with you.

If I can't pay through paypal or go to the gate with the person I wouldn't make the deal..........I've heard a lot about people "saying" they were scammed. It's just too easy to be walking around with a email copy and a fake id.

You don't know. Burning Man does not provide ticket verification services, buying tickets from a sketchy guy in the airport is what it seems. Good luck.
