2013 Theme - Cargo Cult - thoughts?

Cargo Cult - Who is John Frum? He is known to us by many names, this Visitor from Elsewhere, dispenser of endless abundance and wielder of mysterious technologies: John Frum, Quetzalcoatl, Osiris, "Bob." His cargo is splendid, his generosity boundless, his motives beyond our understanding. But across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts. Our theme this year asks three related questions; who is John Frum, where is he really from, and where, on spaceship Earth, are we all going?

Ethiopian kids hack OLPCs in 5 months with zero instruction

the OLPC Project decided to try something completely different: it delivered some boxes of tablets to two villages in Ethiopia, taped shut, with no instructions whatsoever.

...archaeologists have discovered hundreds of mysterious, once-metallic spheres buried deep beneath an ancient pyramid in Mexico City. And we have absolutely no idea what they’re for.

Let's be honest here, archeologists are making this up by the seat of their pants most of the time.

Just today some members of our camp were on our facebook page discussing the possibility of doing some kind of art project for Cargo Cunt.

I think it is soon to be the end of the known world as we know it, so let it be known.... or something to that effect.....

How much are you going with the theme??

So far I have: Shelter poles cut from the apple tree and bent to shape to dry.. A used paint tarp.. (used military would be better) Going with no grommets..Instead will use a stone tied in the tarp..(boy scout style).. Guess para-cord would work.. Like left over military stuff..

Just watched 'The Great and Powerful OZ' and its theme is Cargo Cult all the way! The people of Emerald City believed the Great and powerful Oz would come from the sky and save them all from the evil witch. So.... Anyone looking for last minute twists on the theme - Wizard of OZ is a possibility (in my opinion).

The Brookings Report:
Anthropological files contain many examples of societies, sure of their place in the universe, which have disintegrated when they have had to associate with previously unfamiliar societies espousing different ideas and different life ways; others that survived such an experience usually did so by paying the price of changes in values and attitudes and behavior... Continuing studies to determine emotional and intellectual understanding and attitudes -- and successive alterations of them if any -- regarding the possibility and consequences of discovering intelligent extraterrestrial life.

Aliens, based on the few that I have seen, have very radically different looking sex organs. I am often not sure about what goes where.
