Oh, sorry, too late. I started my own event back in 99. It's still going strong, gets better every year. You should come.

I'll stop ruining the burn when you do.

Epiphany time. The eBay community boards are populated by thousands of users that spend all day arguing about whose fault it is that their worthless goods don't sell. The poker boards can't agree on who ruined the on-line industry, the odds of a particular hand, which casino is the best, etc...I've come to the conclusion that because of the anonymous format of the internet all boards end up in name calling turmoil. Why did I think that this one would be any different? Two years ago when there was no ticket shortage did everyone fight about camp placement and the long lines or did they post positive and constructive ideas? Just wondering.

Actually, you'll come to discover this board is a lot less anonymous than many (for the most part). Probably the majority of posters who've been around for a while are one or two degrees of separation from each-other, and a large number of us attend the ePlaya Meet 'n Greet every year in BRC on Thursday (which Doc has been kindly hosting at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro for years now). Everyone who posts or lurks here is welcome to attend, it's great to have faces to the names- if you can remember by the time you stagger away from it...

As for your second question.. lord, there has always been something to argue about. Just go look through the "Past Events" forums from 2010 or earlier, or threads in the open forum started before then. On the flip-side, go into the Preparation forums and you'll see how helpful people can be.

socks wrote:So this is where we are now as a community.Burner vs Burner.Great job BM.org for fucking this up.But we have people here on the e playa that outright attack anyone who dares to speak out. This troll shit should stop.As for blame we only need to look to BM.org.They were told by the community well before this happened that it would fail.Did BM.org take ownership of this epic failure hell no.They said too much demand did this (is this taking ownership).

I do not understand how you expect the BORG to "take ownership" of the fact that the event has become popular enough to sell out.

socks wrote:With last year sell out in July this caught the scalpers attention. For the first time they could game Burning man on tickets. Then BM.org just gave it away to the scalpers with the lottery system making it too easy for them to game the system. And they did in a very big way.You think all the tickets went to the newbies think again. So the stage was set for a lottery that would sell out in 1 day giving tickets even more value than ever before. So BM .org was thinking how could we double down on the epic fuck up.They went with changing the rules to the game after it started by taking away the 10,000 tickets that they promised to us in the general sale.Their new plan was to award the tickets to a special group of burners who are far better burners than most. This dashed the last hope most had for any chance for a ticket at all.And if your question is why are we compelled to cast blame you just have not been paying attention.

 Wow. Blamestorm much? The event got well known. WE did that. OUR fault. Not the BORG. WE made the event so awesome that lots and lots of people want to experience it.

As a ticket holder and a veteran Burner, I will go ahead and accept the blame you want so desperately to assign. I DID IT. I PURCHASED A TICKET SPECIFICALLY TO MAKE SURE YOU WOULDN'T BE THERE. Do you feel better?

Now that that's been taken care of, would you kindly STOP whining.

Since I have tickets too that means your significant other and your friends can't go either. Blaming the org doesn't benefit anyone especially since this event is what WE make of it.

I wonder how many people first heard about burning Man and decided to go because they saw on the news that an arson(name withheld) had lit the Man on fire early a few years ago.

I think(name withheld) is to blame also for adding to the hype also.

Yes! We'll need them to create the visual representation of the current flame (blame) war that's brewing between ticket holders and non-ticket holders.

Don't forget the front pages of the newspapers (before the arson thing) from Reno to the SF Bay Area...those images of the art over the years are compelling.
