It reminds me of the stories of people wanting to sue because they did get the birthday present they were hoping for.

As a human being I just have to start by saying you should be grateful that so many people put the effort they do into the Burning Man event and that you have in the past, and may again in the future have the opportunity to participate in the event.

Yup, agreed 100% - wrong in so many ways AND mean spirited, spiteful, complete misuse of the legal system:

One of the things I hate most about the practice of civil law are the people who just try to use it as a weapon to punish someone - or think they have hit the lawsuit lottery. How in the bloody hell do you think that so many have been SO damaged as to make a suit viable??? Oh darn, they didn't get to go on the vacation they planned on????? Oh, they spent money without knowing they could get in????

Ok, yes, the ticketing problems this year really suck. That does not mean I want to create more problems for an event I care a lot about and have spent years volunteering for. That is the only possible joy you would get out of such a suit. Take it somewhere else and play with it, Newbie. If such a suit ever saw the light of day, I, for one, would be very happy to volunteer to assist in it's defense - and many more like me. You are biting off way more than you want to chew. If you need to right a wrong, go to Syria.

We have security cameras all over our property. The most common use? Finding someone about to stage a slip and fall. Carry a bottle of water, walk over to an out of the way place, sprinkle water on ground, gently lower self into position, start screaming. Usually security just points up at the camera, lets them know they are being and have been filmed and they are miraculously cured. One in a while, one insists on filing a complaint. That's what insurance is for.

Just recently had a personal lawsuit against me dropped. Claimed I attacked her at a Jets game when I was on the other side of the stadium and in a higher level. Went through 4 lawyers before the last one dropped her. Someone found a youtube video of her doing the attacking. She took her shoe off and started beating people around her. After she was ejected, claimed neck and wrist injuries. It's always neck and wrist.
Send lawyers, guns and money - The shit has hit the fan.

Hey, I heard that once there was this guy... some sort of artsy and seclusive carpenter type... and he decided to continue a friend's beach bonfire tradition, and built a 9ft wooden guy and burned it with a few friends watching. Him and some friends kept doing it each year.

Long story short, it became a sort of big deal, they moved it to the desert, and all sorts of people started camping out with them and doing creative stuff. Things kept getting bigger and more out of hand, so the friends (who really had no corporate or formal training) made an organization and did their best to do what was needed to keep the thing going. So over the course of something like 25 years tens if not hundreds of thousands of people were inspired to be creative, give to the community, be adventurous, and so forth. People really had fun!

Well anyway, they ran into another snag when they couldn't safely and legally give a ticket to everyone who wanted to go, so they deliberated for months and decided to try out a new strategy for distributing tickets. Although we don't know for sure, it seems right now that it may not be working as well as they had hoped, and not everyone who wanted to go is sure that they will be able to go right now.

Let's sue the fuckers!

original poster watches too many Perry Mason re-runs... Besides there is plenty of time to sort things out and possibly acquire tickets. Generally speaking from a non attorney dude, in order to have a successful suit you would have to prove intent to defraud buyers. Don't see that here. Maybe a little to much of the org treating the event a little too spectator driven rather than participant driven. It appears that the org is still learning.

My 2 cents: the rest of ticket sales should be one person - one ticket. That ticket, or right of entry, to be branded on with a serial number.........

On top of everything else... Just because they are an llc doesn't mean that they are making a profit. The money goes to making the party happen. I do not see any evidence that there is some overseas bank account collecting box tops from over eager burners.

And frankly, Cryptofishist, I wouldn't be too worried about the profit they made if I felt the LLC's leadership were equipped to handle this juncture in the festival's history. It is, after all, a for-profit LLC, and making money is not a crime. As you know, I have many problems with the current leadership. That isn't one of them.
