Fundraising for Beemah's Bakery

Postby peltman » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:14 pm

Hello All!

Beemah's Bakery needs your help to bring more fun food to the Playa! This post is looking mostly for assistance of the Financial Variety, and if there's a better place on Eplaya where this should be posted, please let me know. If you happen to be culinarily-minded and looking for a theme camp, there may be some space in our camp and our hearts for someone hardworking, also.

Here's the kickstarter link, and some info on the project itself. Thanks for your attention, and may the snarky commentary ensue....

Beemah's Burning Man Bakery is a Culinary Art project of Camp WhoofARTed for Burning Man 2012. We will be setting up a kitchen as a part of camp WhoofARTed in Black Rock City and delivering fantastic treats to unwitting Burning Man Participants.

We will have a large plexiglass poster of the Black Rock City map in camp, and each day, we will throw a number of darts at the map, and deliver some tasty treats to the closest camp to the dart's location. With our trusty trike and Bicycle trailer, we'll have delivery couriers biking all over the city to deliver our little boxes of joy.

Beemah's Bakery will produce a large number of treats, from cookies to buttermilk cinnamon biscuits to pizza and Curry bakes. Depending on the time of day, our treats are planned to blow the mind of unsuspecting participants.

Your donations will help to fund ingredients for the deliveries, an additional bicycle trailer for the couriers, transportation of the kitchen to the playa, propane for cooking/baking, and boxes for delivery. Any funds above the requested amount will increase the frequency of deliveries and availability of additional foods.

About Beemah:
In the default world, Beemah is naturally attracted to kitchens. He's been the kitchen b**** in many restaurants across the country. He's been a sous chef, and a pastry chef, and a professional knife-and-rolling-pin-for-hire. He manages multiple restaurants at a ski resort in the winter. He bartends for major festivals. He takes on the daily challenge of feeding his culinarily-handicapped partner, Bing Bing, which is no small feat as she is a picky eater. A lot of love will be put into this project and, with your help, will be shared specifically with you.

Well folks, we're 32% there. Special thanks to everyone who has helped out.

A point of clarification about the fundraising efforts here: This is a project that will make it to playa no matter what. On suggestion of one of our campers, we know there are quite a few who want to give back to the playa but really aren't sure how, or lack the time, or lack any artistic drive. That's ok, and we welcome those folks with open arms, too! We decided to offer this up as a way for folks to help make a great thing even better. To increase the menu availability for the surprise deliveries, and to know that they, too, have given something back! :)

Take a look at what we're doing, and join us! :)

We've raised over 60% of the funds needed to get the kickstarter funds, mostly through social networking (Thank you!) and with somewhat of a presence at Washington's Paradiso Festival, as well as our future involvement in the Seattle Precompression event with OT and Distrikt.

Located some pretty kickass bike trailers, so we've been busy remodeling them to fit our needs, and we're still looking for the production oven (for now, we've got the little coleman jobbies to do the trick).

Anyone having something laying around your junk heap, like a bicycle trailer, a Propane oven, or additional 5-gal propane cans you're not using anymore, let me know, those sure would help the cause too :) Most of that, I'm sure, is a longshot - but those who don't ask, never know :)

Sounds like we may be working in tandem with another camp who intends to send folks on "Quests" - so one of those quests might just be delivering some happiness to another camper.

I've prefected the simplization (is that even a frickin' word?) of a new recipe for the playa, too - Cheesy Garlic Bacon biscuits. Got the big morsels of cheese and bacon and everything built RIGHT IN to the dough...

Anyone in the Seattle Area can get a taste of our concepts at the Precompression party - send a note for details, or search for it on facebook!
