Bottlecap Gazebo project for 2012 burn

Postby agrinberg » Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:55 pm

Hey guys
Thought I'd start promoting a project that I'm working on with some friends for next years' burn. It's a gazebo made of reclaimed lumber and bottlecaps. I just launched a tumblr page and a facebook page for the project to help with fundraising, get people involved and show our progress. Hope you all like it and can help out!

Right now the top priorities are getting people to collect bottlecaps for us. We need about 60,000 of them! If you can help out, let me know. We are based in SF and would greatly appreciate any caps that you can collect for us, even if it's only a few. Of course we also need funds. The tumblr page has an easy wepay.com link set up so feel free to give us your money :)

Here are the links for our FB and tumblr pages

in 2007 for the Green Man we did a smaller scale project that inspired this one. Hopefully you remember and loved the Power Plant:

The Gazebo will utilize the same bottlecap technique as the Power Plant, yet will be about 10 times the size.

Thanks so much for checking this out. Can't wait to make it happen!

You've probably thought of this a dozen times already, but...
Are there any bars in your town who'd uncap bottles into a coffee can?

Where can we mail our bottle caps?

I thought I was a person who would make bottlecap and chopstick sistrums, but now I admit I am just a person with a shoebox full of bottlecaps, a plastic bag full of used chopsticks, and a dream.

This project is so tight. I'm glad someone finally found a way to make beer beautiful ;)
I'm starting a collection jar in my house in SF, so I'll bring them by your place. Do you guys have a meeting schedule for work nights or something??

LOVE IT!!

Kickstarter campaign up and running!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bot ... cap-gazebo

We launched our kickstarter campaign and would love your help. We did not receive any funding from Burning Man, so we will be relying 100% on our own wallets and the community to get the Bottlecap Gazebo to the Burn. We are well into the project and have made a lot of progress, although most of our expenses will be kicking in soon.

Thanks to many of you who have already helped either with generous donations, bottlecap collecting, or sorting/smashing/stitching. We have already had over 50 volunteers help us out at our workdays and countless more send us bottlecaps from all over the world. It has been a truly collaborative and interactive piece already. Aside from donating to the kickstarter, we still need more volunteers, so give me a holler if you're interested.

Hows the collecting going? Is there a deadline for mailing you caps? Me and my girlfriend have been saving for a month or so.

Collecting is going great. We are still in need of caps, but need them ASAP. Ideally we'd have all caps in by mid June.
