Burning man costume a taboo?

What to wear? What not to wear? Where to find and how to make anything from goggles to fantastic pieces of playawear.

Okay now you've made me want to find a guy with a popped collar but no pants.

That would be a damned sight better than the kind of tragically hip degenerate douchebaggery I run into around here.

Dress in layers - it gets cold, then you find a dance and are sweating buckets at 2Am. Then find yourself walking back to camp at 4AM and freezing again.

I have never wanted to pop my collar so badly in my life!

Stuff like this, btw, is why C187 dresses mostly normally on the playa. He is waiting for someone to fuck with him.

C can't be bargained with. C can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

In general, you'll have great ideas, show up, and realize you had no idea what you were getting into, and want to redo your entire wardrobe for next year, and then you're in the cycle. I'd say that the burning man symbol is fine, it's not sacred. One of the best things about burning man is the sense of humor, and most people don't take it too seriously.

"...the tennis shirt’s upturned collar was originally designed by the inventor of the tennis shirt, himself, for ease and comfort on the tennis court, aiding the player by helping to prevent sunburn and hyperthermia."

Taboo: Anything that might be moop. This would be anything with feathers, fringe, sequins, beads, etc. Can it fall off what you're wearing, onto the ground, creating trash? Leave it at home.

Those EL wire walking people show a lack of originality and creativity and an ability to spend a lot of money for a pre-packaged everything that other people are guaranteed to be wearing.

There are camps like Kostume Kult and Sex Filth Avenue there to provide you with costuming ideas. I say, if nothing is coming to you now, wait until you get out there and let some BRC denizens give you a faboo make-over.

I have said this before but will repeat just because I loves me some newbies - my very favorite costume ever was on a 18ish young man who wandered into my camp. He wore a ceramic cow head duct taped over his underwear (tidy whities so duct taped you could not see the cloth) and a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket on his head. Nothing else.
