ISO the perfect playa boots

What to wear? What not to wear? Where to find and how to make anything from goggles to fantastic pieces of playawear.

junglesmacks +1,
I went barefoot/sandals most of the time. In fact wearing shoes was more uncomfortable and hot....

Okay, I did that a lot, too. :)

It took me years to get comfortable with the idea of letting playa touch my feet as an experiment, but I think my body chemistry allows it. I love my boots and would never set foot on the playa without a pair or 5, but I wear flip-flops at camp and have enjoyed dancing barefoot in the dust at times, which feels hilariously taboo.

I still clean and moisturize my feet before bed though.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I wear flip flops normally literally 98% of the time anyway, so my feet are used to being in the elements. Shoot, I went 6 years completely barefoot pretty much while living in Costa Rica.

Yes I wear flip flops or go barefoot as much as possible, always have. We also probably just have some tough-ass feet. I also live up here in N. Nevada so maybe I am a little more acclimated to it?

I wear my rainbows (gotta represent the sandals of my home town...) around camp, though they get wet in the rain and turned into sandal jerky last year (thank goodness I always have a back up pair!).

When I am working gate or plan on walking around a lot I wear either:

these are slightly lighter, great for climbing through vehicles and super comfy

these are Frye boots. Heavier duty for working, setting up, tearing down, or dancing to something stompy.

BUT I do go barefoot a fair amount. My feet

Takes all of two seconds to flip open the latches and pull your foot out.

The boots look cool, though I'm partial to my Docs. ;)

Giving this thread a nudge over to the Clothing & Playawear board, btw.

Look like Docs.

Capped toe would indicate Cochrans.

Of course I might be wrong.

I agree - the yellow stitching, sole, and tags definitely look like Docs. A good looking pair, mind you. I just got tired of all the damned laces, lazy bastard that I am :)

I will have to pictoralize the boots I have.

One pair has never seen playa dust.

One pair has had limited exposure.

One pair is near gray from the playa.

I might need to do a little work on those gray ones before August.

The primaries are bike boots.

Buckles, zippers.

Thanks, I've got a couple pairs of those. But then again I do ride motorcycles so they fit. They're hard to find, most are 60's-80's vintage depending on style.

You can see a few different variants if you go rent Mad Max or The Road Warrior.

I was going to comment on how good a shape they are in.

Them puppies are vintage.

Been searching for a decent pair of size 13s for years.

Literally, years...

13 is an odd size so they should fetch a small amount on say eBay for example. More standard sizes fetch a premium.

Which era are you looking for? I could keep my eyes open for a pair in size 13.

I too have been looking for that specific pair, also literally for years. The ones I got were brand new, unfortunately they seamed to not have been kept in a good environment. The plasticky toe enforcement patch cracked off as soon as I took em out of the box and the inner lining you can feel the glue. But the rest of the boot is brand new. Assmuch I bought them from never returned any of my e-mails after I bought them.

Wow, so, I'm guessing you sleep with them on, but leave them off for showers.

I lost these...

I noticed them gone the 2 weeks before BM I while I was packing. The week before, I had to go to San Diego for work, and luckily I ran into a little store that carries them. So awesome. They're SUPER comfortable. I wore them all week.

you're right, capped toe. Also, Cochrans have a thinner ankle, and flare up the calf.

I have three pairs, but these are my favorites.
This is a picture of how they are supposed to look.
When I dug them out yesterday I discovered one had a heel missing.
I have them at the Dr's now for recovery.
GBX motorcycle.
I be liking these well.

OMG I want those ombre fryes so bad and I almost had them on ebay curses.

I enjoyed my Born Miriam Harness boots http://www.shoemetro.com/p-255811-born- ... 1003097041

No way did I pay that much for them. And I wish they were 3 inches higher.

My daughter got a pair of demonia's for the 2010 burn. Black with fur trim and big old platforms. It was our virgin year and after looking at burning man pics and such, well she just had to have them. While on the playa, she wore them once while posing for a picture. They were just to big for running around. Well at least she has a cool pair of boots... :?
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Go for comfort first. Broken in, comfy shoes > spiffy new bitchin' looking platform boots.

YMMV. Do whatcha' like.
