Some of us city folks have been exposed to cold weather before.
Even with wind, I don't think I'm freezing at 45 F.

Yes, that was my overall point. All of this fret and worry about "freezing nights" at Burning Man. Most nights are about 50º. Even at its coldest, there is not really any risk to someone with a jacket or a sleeping bag. And most people go to bed well before we hit the coldest part of the night.

However, if your city made a 45 degree swing in temperatures (80º daytime to 35º nighttime), that would be amazing. Everyone's body acclimates to the average high out there, but then it gets shocked by the big drop. To some, it feels much colder than the true temp, because they have "tuned" their body to days in the 90's.

Funny, I feel like just the opposite happens.
Cold seems temporary to me, if I'm used to heat.

When I come back from the playa, the million degree weather here seems much more bearable.
And if I go to florida in the winter, when I get home, the cold doesn't feel so bad.

And I have been really fucking cold on the playa.
Usually just before dawn though.

any cheap car camping tent works.

-who really cares if the tent is dusty? EVERYTHING else is dusty so get used to it. Just throw a sheet over your bedding during the day to keep dust off if you want.
-Who cares if you can stand in your tent? do you really plan on doing much in your tent other than sleeping? I dont.

Not all tents get dusty.

And I plan on using my knees in the future, so standing up is good.

I didn't have any problems with the inside of my tent getting dusty. Didn't even cover my bed.

I remember getting pretty cold at night, many people hunkered down beneath a down quilt on our art car.

Layers, to add and remove as needed for comfort.

Do you think this tent going to work?

Postby Xain » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:25 pm

What do you think?
I already have it, I set it up, it is VERY sturdy feeling.

please note it is NOT a regular dome tent... the way the poles cross make it very sturdy.

I am bringing eight 3' concrete form stakes (foam noodle caps)

I am bringing a king size sheet for all my stuff inside, and an extra tarp for in between the tent and rain fly.

I'm not too worried about the playa dust, just reducing it a lil.

Tent that looks like an RV!

Postby sharkattack » Thu Aug 19, 2010 2:08 pm

Ooh...check it out. They'd look really cool I think if a bunch of them were set up near each other, like an RV park.
