What are the biggest regionals?

Postby mullenc525 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:46 pm

Though we are planning on getting tickets, even if they come after the even starts, we are acknowledging the possibilty of not getting tickets this year.

What's the next best thing? We liked the scale in particular, so we are wondering what the biggest regionals are.

I don't know that such a list (size and scale of regional events) exists. But what stands out for me in the way of awesomeness (and I'm sure there's even more awesomeness out there) is KiwiBurn (yep, New Zealand), Hawaii's regional burn (info on these boards, I think), Nowhere (Euroburners event, in July I think, in western Spain), Flipside (Texas, on Memorial Day I think, most likely sold out), Saguaro Man (Arizona April event in the NE corner of the state, recently sold out). If I remember correctly (I may have been drunk when someone told me), Ireland burners do something fun on a castle grounds someplace too. My recommendation would be to go look at the regionals page and pick a chunk of the globe you're interested in exploring, and from there seek out a regional group.

If you go to a smaller regional, its scale will increase by at least one! :D

Interfuse. Midwest Burners' regional, held not far from Rolla at a little town called Lacquey, Missouri. Tickets are on sale until March 31 at midnight. Venue was brand new last year, and we liked it so much we're back again this year. It's over the 1000-burner mark, and there's probably space at the new location for an additional thousand or two.

Go to http://www.midwestburners.com for more information and tickets.

This year's theme: APOCALYPSE MEOW

I am almost completely positive that Alchemy, one of the two GA regional burns, is biggest stateside now. It was right at 3,000 people last year.

You might want to check out Symbiosis. It will be held this year on the east side of Pyramid Lake, Nv. That is just down the road from Gerlach/BM. It will be held May 17-22nd. It's not a bm regional per se but looks like a fun hippy dippy cool place to be. I think I am going to it since it is just right up the road from me...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Or instead, the LunarBurn eclipse party at PermaBurn on May 18-20. It is to be a bit more of a burner thing than Symbiosis, and tickets cost about 15% of Symbiosis.

I see your 1000 and I'll raise you 500 Rhino :P

Lakes of Fire is at 1500 this year and is also doling out Art Grants for the first time this year.

And you can't blame us for the theme either, for It was on Fire when we got Here.

Burn on.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Its not a regional, but you may like lightning in a bottle.
Drugs may take you down the road to nowhere, but at least its the scenic route.

Nevada's Regional is by far the largest of all the Regionals out there, but I heard it sold out.

Just found this little graph on the Apogaea web site. Its about half way down the page. You click on the little graph and then it opens in a JAVA window.
It shows a few of the larger regionals in comparison to the BRC Burn. I imagine its pretty accurate, but I haven't done any research to check it out.
