Found: Segway brought home from BM

Found: Segway brought home from BM

Postby starkravingrad » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:36 pm

My friend was at the sunrise set of Robot Heart, and was the last to leave and there was a Segway sitting there. He saw a guy going to grab for it, and said "hey buddy..." and the guy immediately dropped it and took off, he was just going to ask him for a beer...lol. Nobody else was around, so he drug it back to his camp. He posted it on the bulletin board at BM, nobody claimed it and he ended up packing it on the bus. He doesn't have a computer and rarely uses one...as he was cleaning out the bus for the winter he realized its time to post that he has this item and needs to get it back to it's rightful owner... We were talking about it today and we had just recently learned that lost items are to be left at the Playa...oopsy. Please contact us through the forum, it has a couple of accessories on it including a bike lock, maybe tell us the code and that could verify that its yours, we also have the serial number handy so that could work too. :) Namaste!!!

I dunno, anyone incompetent enough to drag a $5000+ Segway to the playa, not lock it up, and then abandon it deserves to have that Segway liberated from his or her ownership.

That reminds me of the story about the guy who lost his camp at the end of the week, then just left the playa without his car, tent, supplies, wallet, camera, etc. DPW found his camp, packed it up into his car and drove it back to SF.

I remember that story. Very funny. Hope the guy did something very nice for the DPW folks...

So did the segway find it's owner?
Basic b/e analysis:
2005 $243K
06 $855K
07 $1.0M
08 $1.1M
09 $0
10 $1.1M
11 $1.2M
12 $1.2M
That’s $6.8M that thousands of volunteers deserve to know about. Capitalism is alive at BM. Tickets are the commodity. Others have estimated higher profits.

It's entirely possible that it's not a case of stupid. A friend or campmate could have borrowed it (or it just got stolen) and in a drunken haze could have left it behind or forgotten that they'd borrowed it. Then there's 'parked it in point A, but thought it was parked at point B, and spent an hour looking for it before giving up and jumping to the conclusion someone had stolen it.'

Yup, it could be a rental from the Grand Sierra right here in Re-NO!

The disabled burner you stole a locked mobility vehicle from is no longer with us. For the record the victim was the guy screaming at you as you loaded it onto your "art bus" and pulled away right before he managed to hobble to your bus. Enjoy what you stole from the playa. Maybe this year you can knock a cripple off of their primary mode of mobility and steal it.

Personally I am with Badger on this, any cripple stupid enough to bring a mobility vehicle to Burningman and lock it deserves to have it stolen.

As I read BBadger's post, it was the not locking up that was the issue. YMMV.
