THE ART OF TURNING ART INTO MONEY

THE ART OF TURNING ART INTO MONEY

Postby dadara » Sat Mar 12, 2011 11:14 am

So we heard that we didn't receive a grant for the Pool of Plenty project :(

With a project this big and coming from overseas it will now become very difficult, but I still believe there is a chance. But we will need you!

That chance will be to print our own money in order to fill a pool filled with money.........

The money itself has been printed now and has gone to another printer to get some smaller details printed with silverfoil and then will get numbered. So next week I will be 'rich'

Also the webshop is ready, so you can exchange your Euro$ and Dollar$ for Exchanghibition Bank bills : http://shop.artasmoney.com/

These are the money bills, all are 9 x 20 centimeters

I will thank those pre-ordering the bills before the 15th of March by
adding an extra Dream dollar from the Dreamyourtopia project to the package.

And for those interested in the project itself there's this thread to read:
http://eplaya.burningman.com/viewtopic.php?t=38225 , but
I hope you'll understand that for the time being I'll mostly concentrate on the slogan of the Exchanghibition Bank:
THE ART OF TURNING ART INTO MONEY.

This of course also means that those who have supported the project at the first Indiegogo fundraising attempt will receive their signed bill and of course a Dream dollar as well very soon!

Sorry to hear that you got denied funding, I am still looking forward to whatever you end up doing with your project.

A lot is already happening with the project. You should check in regularly on the blog : http://blog.artasmoney.com lots of interesting articles about the project itself, but also by lots of cool artists, writers and philosophers about the value of art and money.

And from the beginning of April lots of stuff happening in the real world !

One of the coolest happenings will be the pop-up of the bank in the Main Hall of the Central Station in Amsterdam :D

Also a few venues and events in Amsterdam offered me support by accepting the Exchanghibition bills as payment for entrance tickets, which not only gives people more reason to buy them but is also interesting because it emphasizes the question : 'Is this Art or Money' ?

And maybe someone in the U.S. reading this might think it's a cool idea to do so in the States as well?

Because I still hope to make this project cross the Atlantic Ocean !

I guess we call this "The art of using real money to make art which is money"! They look like 'Space Bucks' from the Jetsons.

Or maybe 'The Art of turning Art into Money in order to turn Money into Art' ?

I also hope that people on this board will realize that I, as a foreigner, can't use Kickstarter, so selling the bills will be my way to hopefully Kickstart this project!

I still am planning to use Kickstarter at some stage by teaming up with Americans who may help out but for now am curious how far this Art will get me.

Also it might be interesting to realize all the designs of the bills are hand painted..............

I want to thank everyone who helped so far by exchanging their dollars and euros for Exchanghibition Bank money at http://shop.artasmoney.com and those who in an earlier stage donated to Indiegogo.

The bills will be ready next week and then sent to you all. I hope you will all keep supporting it in a non-monetary way as well by spreading the word!

To have a 'real' currency I felt a ZERO bill and Million bill weren't enough so I now started making INFINITE amounts of money ( I wish.......)

In the Netherlands people start to get into the idea of making this an alternative currency supporting culture, so it will go deeper into the question 'Is this Art or Money' and support the project at the same time. One club offered that visitors can pay their entrance fee with this money for the next three months and some sold-out festivals want to offer the possibility of some extra tickets which can only be bought with these bills. This will help a lot!

But now I have to try to get the ball rolling across the Ocean in the United States. The Jack Rabbit Speaks newsletter and the Burning Man Facebook page posted it today. That's a start. And this also means I'll try to spend some more energy here as well to see if people can help getting the word across as well.

Silverfoil details have been printed as well. The bills are being numbered today and can be sent out beginning of next week to the first Happy Customers of http://shop.artasmoney.com Thanks so much for supporting!
(the printer does a better job at printing than taking pictures. trust me)

We love you ( and might be the only bank in the world who sincerely loves its customers.......)

YAY! The banknotes arrived today and look gorgeous. I am very happy have the details printed in silver.

Okay, so it's late here in Europe and I still need to paint some stuff, but I wanted to let all those who supported the Indiegogo fundraiser and those who already exchanged their money know that tomorrow I am going to send out the first packages. So some of you will get rich overnight! And some will get Zero............

Image

And for those who still would like to support: http://shop.artasmoney.com

I am very happy that BM posted it in their newsletter recently and on their Facebook which gave the project a boost, but hope I will keep getting support from Overseas.

Yours happily and tired

The Temple

Postby Peacekeeper » Sun Apr 03, 2011 12:18 pm

Hey Dadara,

Irish here from the old Black Rock Burner Hostel...
This project looks awesome, yet again... always a pleasure when you come to BRC, the thought you put into your work is incredible, and the enjoyment we get from interacting with it is consequently immense. i can't wait to have security give me the evil eye!

I have a request I'd like to make, if you're agreeable to it..

We're building the Temple this year, and i was wondering if you would mind if we put some links to The Fall & Rise of the Fools Ark on Youtube on our volunteers page? I've always thought that film really hit the Burning Man nail right on the head, and I'd really like for the whole Temple crew to see it - i think they will all learn a lot...

Let me know if this is okay,
Peace

Hey Irish. Congrats with the Temple Build !
If I won't be able to get enough money together to fill a pool this year I should leave my bankers suit home and help you paint the temple :-)

Yes, you can definitely embed those videos on the Volunteer page. I also think we should 'like' each others Facebook pages so we can link a pool filled with money to a burning temple........

Maybe I should mail Kickstarter to see if they could make an option that you could either donate dollars or Millions or None

That way the 'Art of Turning Art into Money' would become 'The Art of Turning Art into Money to support Art with Money' :)

Good to see other artists from Overseas here

I will bring the other bankers as well. We had our first try-out last Sunday and this coming Thursday are part of an art event, Palais Paradiso, in Amsterdam. And the cool thing is that visitors can use our banknotes they got at http://shop.artasmoney.com to pay the entrance fee!

@ Sic Pup, Nothing and Dr Jet Sinister:

I am happy to hear that your Money did arrive and even more happy to hear that you are all so happy with it and won't spend it. After all even if the Exchanghibition Bank money becomes worthless (just as all other money eventually becomes worthless) you'll still have a beautiful work of art instead of less numbers on your digital bank account.............

It's always amazing to see how indeed art imitates life and life imitates art :-)
Just as those Zero notes prevent corruption, maybe these Zero notes should prevent spending money on other things than Art..........?

Yesterday saw the first real performance of the Exchanghibition Bank here in Amsterdam and next week we will give people the possibility to exchange their Euros in the Main Hall of the Central Station here. Very Excited about that!

Image

Keeping our fingers crossed that enough people will exchange their money so this Dream might become Reality across the Ocean as well.......
