That looks pretty cool. Have you figured out exactly how the person or people will control all of the colors?

Are you looking for any help on this project? I'd be willing to lend a hand.

yep, rad!

I'm interested in the controls too. Will it just have 1 input? Multiples for separate people? Music?

Control of colors will depend on the animation that is running. Pre-made animations will always be active on the display. The user(s) controls parameters of the active animation, and it is up to our animation designers to decide what controls will be most fun for the user. It might be control of the red, green, and blue color content of the animation, or it could be control of frequency, intensity, velocity, size of an object, etc... The controllable parameters will vary between animations. The user will control the animations from a podium with 1 joystick, 6 arcade buttons, 3 knobs (or sliders) and 1 BIG RED BUTTON.

Our 5 animation designers (so far) have professional experience in planetarium show production, computer graphics, web design, and game design, as well as our experience designing and building the controllable LED dome display on top of the mutant vehicle The Jellyfish from the year 12,000.

There will be one control point on a podium in front of the display. There will be room on the podium for more than 1 person. Our design philosophy for control is that actions from the user should have immediate and obvious effect, so the user knows they are actually controlling the piece. If you have 3 people all hitting buttons at once, you may lose that sense of control, and will have a harder time telling which button does what. Awesome things can come out of that kind of multi-user chaos, but we aren't purposefully facilitating that. You can, of course, play with it however you'd like once we get it out there!

The SuperConductor itself doesn't have any sound. We are hoping that people will want to come out to the SuperConductor to play music, and try to choreograph the SuperConductor's light with their sound!

We are not affiliated with Basscamp, though our last project lived at their warehouse for years. We are planning to set up the SuperConductor at E11. Hopefully the weather cooperates this year!

If you'd like to check out the 6 panel prototype (and hear more about the project), you should come hang out next Thursday. We're having a fund-raiser at the W-Lounge on the 10th. Ebenflow, Fulbot, and I will be there playing tunes and well, drinking.

Some really cool visualizations you can implement. All the algorithms are there... we are going to be putting these into our project (www.tunneloflights.com) if everything lines up right!

How trippy is this!? (mouse interactive!)

Our fund-raiser last week went really well; We raised a few hundred dollars and should be able to order some of the electronics for the control interface very soon. My goal is to have something for people to actually play with at our next event.

***
Workinonit: Your project looks really cool! We're going to be using multiple power supplies for The SuperConductor (at 7.5V or 9V each) and I recommend doing the same if you can.

Two of these might do the trick, and they're priced well: http://www.web-tronics.com/245vsiouposu.html
We've used them on The Amazing JellyFish from the year 12000 (http://www.jellyfish12000.com)for several years now.

That is a bit low for what we are running with...We will be using 11 of these.

http://www.trcelectronics.com/Meanwell/se-600-5.shtml

Each 160 LED Strip we are using pulls 7.2 amps/ 36watts max. Time 100 = 720 amps/3600 watts... that is some serious current! Granted that is all 16,000 LEDs set to white, but it will happen periodically.

So each of the power supplies will run at ~75% of the max load. Hopefully, none fail. But might throw together some donated and modified ATX power supplies for backup just in case of failure.

Looking forward to seeing your project as well!

We're extremely stoked to announce The SuperConductor is going to be partially funded by the BMORG! We still have about $5000 to raise (and of course a ton of work to do), but we're confident we can make it happen.

We're throwing a party tomorrow to celebrate St. Patty's and the good news. If you are in Salt Lake (or even close), swing by the W-Lounge and check out our small prototype piece, the bag-pipers, dancers, and some juicy beats.

To find out more about the progress of the project (or upcoming events), check out our site/blog: http://www.s-conductor.com/ / http://www.s-conductor.com/blog/

Good luck to everyone creating art for the playa this year!

Hopefully it doesn't blind people during the day! It's pretty damn shiny!
