Art Grants?

Postby dadara » Mon Feb 28, 2011 4:13 pm

The wait is making my hair turn grey.

At least the advantage of more grey hair is that I start looking more like a real banker.......

Needless to say that it will only be possible to buy those suits with Exchanghibition Bank money :)

Of course there's a big difference between one bill with value Zero or one with a value of a Million !

Lovely images, Dadara. Thanks.

Regarding my previous post, I should also mention that last year's contact from the Grant Committee on March 1st was for questions/clarification, then it was another couple of weeks before they sent me their decision. I'm trying to stay distracted right now by writing scripts and doing no-dollar activities until I receive their yay or nay. Patience as an art form, eh gang?

The Tunnel of Questionable Enlightenment was just informed that it was not selected for funding this year. Good Luck to everyone else. Let the fund raising begin!

I'm sorry your piece was not selected, Workin'. I hope your work brings participants to their knees in appreciation, and you can call that "payment received".

I like your idea and plan to come and appreciate it on the playa.

Yeah I don't feel bad about being denied funding because apparently they got like 20% more grant requests than last year, and now I can camp with my art.
"It's impossible." said pride.
"It's risky." said experience.
"It's pointless." said reason.
"Give it a try." whispered the heart.

I heard that we didn't receive a grant. With a project this big and coming from overseas it will now become very difficult, but I still believe there is a chance. Maybe a small one, but a chance for sure. But we need you........

So I started focusing on making enough money to finance the project by printing my own money :D . The money has been printed now and by has now gone to another printer to get some smaller details printed with silverfoil and then will get numbered.

And we also started a webshop in order to sell the money and hopefully earn enough money to fill a swimming pool with money:
http://shop.artasmoney.com/

Since the bills are only ready next week, we decided to give those ordering now and supporting and believing in the project an extra Dream Dollar from the Dreamyourtopia project with every order.

Almost sounding like a real bank, huh?

PS of course this means that those who have supported the first stage of Indiegogo will receive their specially signed bill as well soon!

No funding for walkabout woods either. We're moving forward anyway. It will be kickstarter.com for us. I think it will be important for us all to help each other here and there... every little bit of support helps. I've already pledged money on the bman kickstarter campaigns that are up.

Our kickstarter will be up in a few days, but for now you can follow our project on facebook:

As a foreigner with a project I unfortunately can't use Kickstarter now

(from the Kickstarter website: Do I have to be US-based to start a project?

Currently, yes. Kickstarter's transactions are handled by Amazon Payments, which restricts the ability to receive money to people or entities with a US bank account, US address, and a US drivers license (or state-issued ID).
)

I am looking into the possibilities of getting an American base to set this up, but for now selling the money at http://shop.artasmoney.com will be my 'Kickstarter' to make this project happen............

Georgie Boy: Fallen Queen of Broadway

Postby Mister Jellyfish Mister » Mon Mar 28, 2011 8:25 am

After all of the mind-blowing support you showed me and the Ein Hammer crew last year here on ePlaya, I'm again humbled and honored by the love and laughs we're receiving for this year's art installation, "Georgie Boy: Fallen Queen of Broadway". Details are on the project website at www.MutantVehicle.com/Georgie_Boy.htm where there's a link to the progress blog if you'd like to follow along with the project.

We're thrilled to have been selected for a Burning Man partial funding grant, especially with all the mind-blowing concepts submitted which I hope will find alternate funding so they can fully manifest for us all to enjoy on the playa. I especially love the way Burning Man is supporting projects like Dadara's "The Pool of Plenty and Exchanghibition Bank" through their huge Facebook presence and distribution in their Jack Rabbit Speaks newsletter.

Partial funding is just that, so we won't be putting the begging bowl away just yet. We need your help and that of your Burner friends to build Georgie Boy in a way that we hope will leave you walking away from it on the playa, shaking your head, saying "Dude, that was some f*cked up sh*t". Here's what's going on right now...

Less than 2 weeks left and we're 1/3 there. Please post this link in your Facebook update, Twitter or message it to all your Burner friends so that even if you can't contribute, your friends will know they can: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mi ... a?ref=live

If we don't hit our goal, the Kickstarter is canceled and the project receives no funding from it.

Thanks for supporting the arts, and may your artistic endeavors fulfill you and all of us in profound and gorgeous ways.

I was very happy with that as well. Of course they realize that being a foreign project means that it's much more difficult for me to let the U.S. burners know that this is happening. And those posts definitely helped a lot! But I am still a long way from home.

Today I received my first money bills! YAY! they look really cool with the details in silver and being numbered. So I hope a lot of people will exchange their 'real' money for these banknotes on http://shop.artasmoney.com

Image

One other reason that I am happy with the FB and JRS support is that the idea behind the whole project is just as important as the project itself, so more people will get to know about the blog and read all the amazing posts by cool writers and artists. And maybe get involved themselves as well in the discussion about the value of art and money!
read and discuss here : http://blog.artasmoney.com

Good luck to all other projects as well. with or without grants!

Cheers
