dear barry, hopefully very soon this whole thread will be removed because your buddy there broke the TOS and not so slyly posted content that could easily be considered shilling a product, namely your Krappy Kult, so take your polite positive attitude and shove it up your ass.

The links are not their own personal business sites. As a moderator, I see it something like a referral to Target or Wal-Mart for bikes.

Personally, I find it ooky and the pitch shrill. Like I should be buying a track suit and Nikes.

Yes, radical inclusion is one of the Ten Principles. That does NOT mean we have to like or approve if you. Plus eplaya is not The Playa and eplayans are fairly well known for expressing personal opinions. You don't HAVE to read or reply, Your choice.

im quite certain "choice" has no meaning or use for those that adhere to this college and kult's program.

as an eplayan, i choose to represent the opposing viewpoint...namely freedom.

Landmark and its Associates are scammers of the worst kind, they sell you your own prison system of beliefs and then try to push it on others...for a price.

they can suck it.

Scientology and its analogs creep me out. I went to a few 'sessions'(?) with a 'friend' when I was about 16. It made me very uncomfortable to see adults acting as they did.
When older I researched their philosophies, practices, and beliefs in an attempt to clarify my impressions from the past. I arrived at the same conclusion I had as a young man. They appear like diehard sci-fi fans who love to play sub 24/7 to masters they pay for the mindfuck.
I love sci-fi and porn as well  but you won't find me pushing rishathra on you. If screwing alien hominids isn't your cup of tea, I understand and will not continue insisting that it is THE BEST sex you've ever had (even though it is).

To the OP: Get fisted! There are many paths to enlightenment. Yours is not the only nor the best way. By aggressively foisting your worldview on us you have done the greatest possible disservice to your cause that I can think of. You may not have even realized that you were doing it. Zealotry is a vice. Subtlety is a forgotten art. Your actions have colored my view of your group permanently.
Good luck with your spaceship salvation. Say hi to Xenu for me.

The all inclusive spirit of BurningMan

Postby tmx007 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:28 am

Hi all...what was soo threatening about Barry's question that everyone is freaking out like that forgetting the philosophy of all inclusiveness and radical self-expression ?

I know that Landmarker's can get overboard and be extra pushy ...highly annoying I agree. but as intelligent people we can just not sign up and that's it...so what?
as to the pricing I find it rather inexpensive (think shrink or pilates session that cost 100$/hr on average at least here in NYC)

I have done a few Landmark courses couple of years ago. SELP (self-expression-leadership-program) that someone mentioned here is EXCELLENT.
it just helps you get a project on the road...whatever you chose. it's very much in the empowering/DIY -spirit of burningman as is much else they say. I separate message from delivery method/messenger.

I have been to BM 14 times...I am free-spirited and not one to belong to groups/herds myself and I welcome any thinking on the playa. I am strong enough to walk away. that's the color of BM having the variety.
yea!
can't wait to be back...see you all there :-)

Nobody is forgetting any "principles". It's just that opinions are a lot like assholes. Everybody has one and they're all full of shit...and everybody just loves taking a big healthy dump. Now get over it; get out the one-ply and start working on your post count!

What I found distasteful was the feeling that I was being slyly marketed to on a forum for an event that is anti-commerce. The Burn, for me, represents--among many other things--freedom from people who Want Something From Me.

People should not come here or to the Burn with the idea of selling something, and be surprised when people get cranky.

Hi barry. we'll be somewhere in the french quarter if fate wills a meet up.

I saw this thread and had to jump in for the following reasons:

i HAVE done forum + advanced.
yes i was marketed at, and yes that pissed me off to no end. but it's my choice about how much to engage.
Yes some elements seem freakin weird to anyone who hasn't done it.

Does it work: i duuno coz i can't speak for anyone but myself...

but..

i can now speak to my mum about anything (totally impossible before), and don't feel like i have an empty hole in me that needs filling with anything that would let me forget what a horrible person i was(so i thought). i also properly connected with my dad whom i have only ever met maybe 9 times and manage to tell him i loved him, and forgave him for not being there.
i like myself and can look myself in the eye in the mirror and like what i see.

and i am proud that i can now do these things.

anyone with 2 braincells to rub together should maybe try something before commenting or assuming anything.
that's called wisdom.

if it's not your thing then fine.
what i find more amusing than anything is that there seem to be more zealots on the "have not done" side rather than the "done side". most people who have gone through are just happy to continue with their lives being happier people who are nicer to everyone around them... and for the most part marginally less weird than Hare krishnas or scientologists... or sci fi readers... or WoW players.

Ultimately: who cares.

just ask yourself this if confronted by forumites:
are they good people? (yes/no)
am i comfortable enough to listen to them ramble on (yes/no)

if you answer no... then why are you still standing there?

thanks for listening and Ka Kite

I know people that have gone through the training. They are all zealots for the program and how much they have benefitted and how much it has done for them. Interesting, my perception regarding how they benefited is in no way in alignment with theirs. Rather than exhibiting the positive results they brag about, they are actually IMHO in a worse position than they were before their training. Before, they knew their problems. Now they still have their problems and maybe a few new ones, but they just believe they don't.

That's my problem with it.

Actually, JK, you know me and I went thru it and I am anything but a zealot for it. Did it help me? A bit, sure. Did I turn around and try to sell it to my friends and family? No way. The hard sell aspect took most of the rosy glow right off. YMMV.

Well, from what I do know about you, I am surprised to learn you took it. You don't fit the profile of those I know that thought they needed it in the first place. (that was meant as a compliment.)

I will take it as such. :D I'm not averse to new experiences, and as I said, my best friend really wanted me to take the course and paid my way. I am every bit a skeptic about most things like this, but it does have some value.

See that's the rub.
Would one be more inclined to believe it was beneficial if it was free? or do they Say "oh it was great!" because no one wants to admit the'd been suckered for $500?
My Ex drank the cool-aid, and draged me and her folks to the "Graduation" and all I remember was being singled out by some prick who kept telling me, you are always going to be stuck there in your rut. and then for reasons that still escape me, I answered "Rut? What the hell are you tlking about? my Girlfriend and I just had a totally hot 3 way with some random flight stewardess last night." lill prick shut the fuck up, he did!

What would Werner Erhard say? Stop bragging about Landmark long enough to join the community of burners. You're letting it become a barrier.
!

To be fair, he just asked if other people were coming who were into Landmark too when he was attacked for being into it. Kinda liek asking if anyone who did Yoga was coming to burning man and being told that Yoga was for brainwashed culty idiots. I'd defend myself too.

I think BBD did well in posting his feelings about Landmark.
Short & sweet, to the point, no preaching. Seems like he took what he needed from it and that's good.
Notice how he avoided the hard sell and remains unimmolated?
If anyone does a hard sell on *anything* around here they should expect to spontaneously combust on first contact.
Carry on.
