Everyone knows the silent film Metropolis (1927) depicting everyday worker creatives toiling for over 20 years underground in dust, heat and smoke. They create the city for the evil overlord, year by year. Then the overlord orders the creation of a robot hottie, subservient to his every desire. Of good heart, she rebels, for true love, leading the 50,000 creative workers who tend the machines, and make all the works of beauty, for the city and for free, to victory, reclaiming the city for humanity and freedom!
This summer, there is a new release of the film with newly discovered footage. Yes it is Kino's business to sell the film to masses, but you can see the trailer at kino.com/metropolis/ and
If you haven't seen the film, it's recommended, though I would say it has nothing to do with the festival in the desert, nothing whatsoever, they are totally different, completely unrelated, no connection at all.
