Launched in San Francisco in 2003, Bootie was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup. Now with sister parties in LA, New York, Boston, Paris, and Munich, Bootie mixes and matches every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big party where everyone feels welcome. It’s a place where all sounds, cultures, and sexualities can unite on the dance floor. Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation ... with free mashup CDs given away like candy!

DJs Adrian, Mysterious D, and Malderor will keep your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, celebrating -– and satirizing -– the many different genres of music. Guest mashup DJs will be featured, as well as the infamous midnight mashup show.

Bootie ... because one song at a time just isn't enough.

Awesome, same here. I have all the best-of Bootie CDs, and I'll be pumping myself up on the drive to BRC with them.

Can't wait to be there for the party time!

>>So what's a mashup?
What's a bootleg?
Also known as "bastard pop," a bootleg is a song that's "mashed-up." Usually, this means the vocal track of one song is mixed over the instrumentation of another, creating an entirely new song out of disparate genres.

Using audio editing software, DJs and mashup artists combine different artists and musical genres to create new and unique songs that are often greater than the sum of their parts. Imagine Michael Jackson rocking out with Nirvana, Britney Spears singing with Daft Punk, Cher fronting AC/DC, or Ludacris rapping with Depeche Mode. << (which is only the most basic, and the tip of the iceberg!)

As for what DJs do, they mix... which is layering songs (usually of th same genre) and overlapping beats. A good mashup is made with software using production skills, song arrangement, and with an ear for musical key. Also, the modern mashup movement is about combining disparate genres... bringing artists together that wouldn't even hang in the same room together - to make a new singular song, or mashup! The songs are not officially licensed, so they are technically bootlegs.. which brings in the 'pirate' theme Bootie carries with it, along with giving away free Bootie mashups CDs -- pirate's booty!

Bootie is the first all mashup party in the U.S. in 2003 and now has sister Bootie mashup parties all over the world. It's dedicated to showcasing the best of these productions from producers worldwide. And it's one helluva fun dance party! Esp for those searching for non-thumpa thumpa music, who like vocals and *songs* - but not the same song in the same way they've heard 1000 times before!
