Temple Celebration Sunset Silence

Postby Sensei » Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:20 am

On Sunday 6, 2009 from Sunset until the Temple Burn, the Citizens of Black Rock city will experience something they have never experienced during the Burning Man event: an air horn orchestra. Coming together for the multitude of reasons each person brings to experience cacophony and dissonance, we will debase ourselves before the earth, after Saturday night's frenzied climax, and right before Sunday's. Our Symphony for Airhorn #1 should be played thusly:

1 long blast
1 short blast
7 long blasts
3 short blasts

or, for those of you who know Morse code:

Y _ . _ _
O _ _ _
G _ _ .
I . .

The Symphony for Airhorn #1 can and should be played individually, in groups, and most importantly, over and over.

I hate people with no sense of humor.

Oh wait, I think this was posted in the wrong thread.

Because we do. Well, sorta. Instead of frankfurters we have black pudding and instead of black pudding we have bacon. And without shoes, I can't partake of the donuts. And well, we discovered that shaving cream on the chocolate covered pretzels just didn't have the exact zhunay say quack that we needed for a day of oppression and purges, so we went on to other thing.

Last year was the first year for me where the Temple Burn felt really important.

I'd lost my dad to ALS... and written a goodbye inscription to him in the temple. It was a really tough thing to do. I spent a lot of time at the temple before it burned, very teary-eyed... especially after reading all of the other contributions by others that had lost someone they loved.

The burn itself was very, very difficult for me. For myself, I was hoping for some sort of quiet, introspective experience. I wasn't the only one hoping for this. The vast majority of people around me were silent.. and pissed off at the "disrespectful" drunk/stoned/whatever loudmouths who were "ruining" the moment.

Thing is, BM is a herd of cats. Some people want to celebrate life loudly. Some people just want to cheer at things burning... even those in the same place in life as I was... who had experienced the same loss as I had but decided to honor it differently.

Not all of them were in the same space but feeling it differently. Some of them were just loudmouthed pricks hoping to bullbait a reaction. Trolls, to put it succinctly.

The Temple Burn will NEVER be what everyone wants it to be. Enjoy it it your own way... and accept that not everyone else feels the same way about it.

Next year, I'll find my own way to honor my dad.

in my opinion, i were to have a part of my ash left in the temple, i would want my second flambe' to be cheered for by my friends.

some wish to remember in peace, and others prefer to celebrate what was.

I tend to side with mk-ultra on this one. The temple was lit up like a club, and was one of the better if not the most appealing structure in 2008, so of course it's going to attract more people who go there looking to "party". You can't really blame them for that, since there is no reason to not be obnoxious out there.

However it is "the spot" for people who are letting go of sadness and death baggage. People were irreverent and disrespectful, but that's life for ya. Personally I'd love to hear total silence, if only for the reason that it challenges you to be respectful of people's emotional state in that particular area. It's not to be expected.

There's probably a design solution for this.

How about a dose of C4 in the pattern of OHM?

After the screaming fades, blessed silence.

Then the survivors can meditate in peace.

Happy?

Or in International Maritime Signal

1 Long Blast = Danger
1 Short Blast = Port
7 or more blasts = Abandon Ship
3 Short Blasts = end of drill

I would prefer, Ladies and Gentleman, that instead of telling people to be quiet
and yelling at even louder at other people with megaphones to be even quiter,
that we could all just open up our hymnbook to page 132 and sing along with me with me..........

Thank you very much...thank you very much.

all right....fine....

if elvis shows up i'll be quiet...but i want the REAL elvis, no impersonators.

I know he's still alive, so if you can arrange this "Nearicle" i will make sure the angry horde of Alpenfluglers hold their breath at the temple.

deal?
