3-D Black Light Paintings at Ancient Gallery

Postby Teo del Fuego » Wed Sep 19, 2007 4:17 pm

Did anyone see the Ancient Gallery on 4:30 with the 3-D Black Light paintings? I rode by a couple times, thinking "lame" until I went in and realized that IF you wore these special glasses the paintings popped out in extraordinary 3D. Was that special paint in addition to the special glasses, or just any phosphrescent paint will do?

I tried "search" but came up empty...

I had exactly the same experience. I'd love to know how they did it.

I've seen that effect before. It's just regular phosphorescent paint. I don't know why it creates that effect. Cool.

We built a large scale arcade game, the Fling of Destiny, for our camp and used phosphorescent paints and UV lighting in it. Someone handed me a pair of those glasses and told me to put them on and check out the game and I was amazed. It made the target board pop out as if in 3D. I can only imagine it has to do with the incident angles of the now polarized UV light bouncing off the surface of the paints and back to your two eyes. I really don't know what I'm talking about however. I just know it was a very cool and unexpected effect!
If everyone is special... no one is.

I do believe I will go to Burning Man...

I believe that was done by PlayaQ. Might be worth contacting them to see how it was done.
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.
