The Home for Wayward Art 2007 Edition

The Home for Wayward Art 2007 Edition

Postby AntiM » Sat Feb 03, 2007 5:48 pm

Yeah, yeah, you know, but oooh, there's so many new folks and I know they don't know ... so here's my project as described down in 2006 art and performances:

This was my project last year and since it is returning I thought I should introduce it yet again for the new folks.

Anti M's Home for Wayward Art is a place for small art, medium art, amateur art, but especially Bad Art, Lost Art, Found Art, Art which Needs a Good Spanking, and of course, Wayward Art. This is not a gallery, it is more like juvenile detention for art, an orphanage, a half-way house for misfit art. All art in the Home is up for adoption, all the prospective new parent needs to do is fill out a small adoption form and clip it to the Home in place of their newfound art darling. Art may also be committed to the Home, just put it securely in place and say good-bye. While the emphasis is on visual art such as paintings, drawings and photos, sculptural art and trinkets found their way into the Home last year and then found new homes.

Why? I love to paint, I love to do miniatures, I love to give things away. Based on the concepts of art and gifting, I came up with the Home. Why Bad Art? While I am quite good at miniatures, I am a beginner painter and not always pleased with my products. I also glean art from thrift stores and friends and family and yard sales.

There's a photo of the Home on my site (see sig line). Yes, it is made of chickenwire and 2x4s.

I just put all the adoption cards from last year into albums, it was great to read over what went where and why, thanks to the eplayans who adopted and contributed! This project was so successful I had to ration out my original art, and I only had a handful of things which did not go to new homes. They're getting makeovers, hehehe.

The biggest difference will be a big ass No Sunday Donations sign. Sadly, folks thought the Home was a great place to dump unwanted costumes and general schtuff. And it will be "closed" at night, I find too many beer bottles and trash otherwise.

And I must say, 2006 saw some superior donations, most notably Hot Jesus, the Santa Massacree, and the stained glass Man, and some excellent woodblocks!

Aren't those great? Ranger Genius did those. He's got a design for this year too, I can hardly wait. Although I may not have to, I might scarf up one of the prototypes.

See you there!

I already have 3 donations--although at least one may be too moopy for the playa.

Hi AntiM,

I did not see this last year, but i think it's a wonderful project! Well bowled, Madam!

I'll be sure to bring along a trinket or two for the collection.

This fits perfectly with my philosophy of art with a capital A: It should be done by everyone. And then given away or discarded. It is in the *making*, not the viewing, dammit. If what you see generates more ideas, all the better. But (A)rt is a process, not a thing.

Actually, the ladies are Venus of Willendorf goddesses, the oldest known sculpture if I remember correctly, Neanderthal. I'd have to look it up. Ain't they cool? I have a row of six on top of my mirror in the bedroom, oh my, yes, they're having an effect!

 Oldest known sculpture?! Could you put up a picture of one? You've roused my curiosity! 8)

ahhhhhhhhhh

The warm wether in the islands definately incouraged alot of that as well, but you see it might have been the package, I picked it up and took it in the house, as we were getting into the cab to the airport, I had no idea what was inside till we got home last night! I loved the suspense!
The are magnificent!

I think that is correct. A goddess figure from Neanderthal days. They have found these all over the place now.

Thanks here too! I got a candle mold for mylarry in that shape, everyone loves them. Too bad candles and burning man don't mix well, he gifts his candles at our regionals most of the time. I simply had to send booby girls to the Booby Bar!

Hushville is at Coral Reef and 7:00, although I don't know yet which street we'll be on. Very likely facing the potty bank.

RG and I hit the thrift shops, found some mighty, mighty bad art. Think owls. Think I Wuv You statuettes, think paint by numbers. Think lots of owls.

The painting languishes, but I have come up with some interesting pieces. Oddly, all the fantasy burner portraits I normally do just aren't happening; all my human figures have no faces this year. Weird, and I'm sure that's a sign I've gone completely insane!

Thank you to everyone who made the Home a success, the folks who adopted, the folks who committed their art.

I just went through the adoption cards, 334 of them, a record. I'll need a third album. Reading the comments put a silly grin on my face. Now, I know I'm missing some cards, ones I'd read on the playa, I hope they didn't become MOOP and are just misplaced. I do know some of my larger canvases were taken with no card left behind, that bums me out. Nature of the project, I have to trust folks.

So, who adopted Wall of Fire? Larger, on stretched canvas, put it out Sunday morning I think. Anyone? Beuller? Beuller?

AntiM

I had the pleasure of meeting you and adopting "Playa Feet" on Friday morning (I believe)

I was camped down the street from you, at 7:00 and Boreal, and wanted to thank you for your installation...

I adopted Playa Feet, as it reminded me of how my husband and I take care of each other's feet when we go to Burning Man...

When I showed it to him, he asked if that was Mary washing Jesus' feet...

I laughed and explained it was me...

We will cherish our gift always...

BTW, I never did find the Treasure Chest with the sign "Look Here" you told me about, but I sure as hell tried and was able to explore the innards of Hushville in my search...

Wishing you health and happiness this coming year and see you in 2008 :)

I just put your adoption card in the album today. That was a fun piece to do, I was going to alter the picture, but realized it only needed the overly ornate frame treatment.

Funny, we have a Lady D who camps with us too!

I love the overly ornate frame... It's perfect...

"D" is short for Damaradeaella... But who wants to say that?

hahaha
