You peeps think there is going to be trouble because you are conditioned to think that way...
be bigger than what you have been fed all you're life.
DVD Burner wrote:And just for the record, I grew up with Jews. They were my neighbors, schoolmates, and the synagogue is still across the street from where my parents still live for over 30 years.
--ALSO--: Either way, it's gonna be trouble. why cant everyone leave the ethnicities behind and just be burners.
bullD wrote:So what you are saying is you would rather see absolutely NO ethnic persuasion on the playa at all, is that right?
DVD Burner wrote:bullD wrote:So what you are saying is you would rather see absolutely NO ethnic persuasion on the playa at all, is that right?
What I want is kinda irrelevant. It would be nice to see Burningman progress in what it already has as in new cultures. Slight example, the Goth community, the ravers, artists and all are pushing the limits in an awesome experiment.
All of the previous centuries have already proven that they know how to not get it right and not get along and destroy each other and ignore progressive ideas. Why infect the only time for everyone to get together on the playa in a temporary city with what is not good from the outside that everyone is trying to get away from?

uhh, ok.
Goth's, ravers, artists and all come from a wide variety of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. If we did it you're way, there would have to be an officer of culture/ethnic removal at the front gate and it would go something like this:
--Excuse me, I need for you to reveal you're culture and/or ethnicity to me please.
Oh really, not white then ehh. I'm going to need you to leave you're culture here at the gate please. We cant have any FOREIGN cultures/ethnicities infecting our event...--

Are Palestinians invited?

lizwiz wrote:I am Jewish native Texan. I grew up in a predominately non Jewish environment. Being surrounded by Jews in college and going to Israel helped me to realize how I was an outsider growing up because I was Jewish. I have also realized that one of my great passions in life is to strenthen the Jewish community and to promote positive Jewish Awareness to the world. I am not segregating us from the rest of Bm, I am strengthening us and sharing to BM how much I love Israel. This year's theme explicitly states that you should create your own world. I am trying to create a world of people that are like minded and on a similar level. Together we can grow and make new connections. My camp is not exclusively Jewish. We already have a Hindu that wants to camp with us.

Just like there are no Romans today. Just Italians. (unless you mean the people from the city of Rome).
The term Palestinian left the scene when the British did in the '40s. It was a British term for all the people, Jews and Arabs, that lived in the area that is now Israel and Jordan. The Jews got Israel and the Arabs got Jordan.

Exactly the reason I said " I see trouble ahead"
You never asked why I did, you asumed I either thought "you" wre going to be trouble or someone was going to cause trouble.

Either way, it's gonna be trouble. why cant everyone leave the ethnicities behind and just be burners. This I can see will get nastier than the "why is burningman so white" thread.

There is no such thing as palestinians today. There are Israelis, there are Jordanians, and there are arabs.

Yay Diversity!!! The more diversity the better! it makes people more tolerant if they see how varied people are.
last thing you really want is religon and politics to mess it up. suppose someone puts up an Arab camp or Palistinian camp. would camp Israel have problems with that?
DVD we didn't bring politics into our camp. You did! We aren't political in nature! We have no problem with anyone elses camp as long as they don't bother us. Burning Man is awesome because we have such freedom to express ourselves. Camp Israel is a camp of love and life. We celebrate life and give love to each other. We are truly BM. My hope is that all the camps are like that.
how is all of this fitting into the theme of things? I myself have nothing against any of the proposed camps other than having a hard time seeing how all of these cultures plan on getting along at burningman since it's already proven that they cant elsewhere and people in the states and other parts of the world have very big opinions about how things are in that part of the world.
