Help a tourist buy a car!! EAST COAST!!

hi there,
ok, so, im travelling to the states in may an would really love to get my hands on a car. my initial thoughts were to buy one, use it for about 4 months then scrap it on the other side of the country....
after looking for months for someone who would help me to do this, and being completely unsuccessful it was sort of forced upon me that i am going to have to go for a more expensive rental....
this is basically a last ditch attempt to find someone (the closer to NY the better) who might let me use their address to register a car to. maybe even arrange something like buying a car registering it in their name and having me as a named user of it?? i dunnno, bit much to ask huh.... (cou$$$$$gh)
if i did find someone, it would be a lifesaver for my friends and i...
imagine how much extra i could spend preparing for burning man, 3 months into my trip!!!

What you need is someone on the ground to inspect the car and verify any arrangements.
People on some car forums often do this for each other.

You can do most of the shopping yourself on craigslist.
Those of us in the usa are familiar with the usa car lines and the market here.

Buying a car that's worth scrapping, when your finished....is probably not a vehicle yould want to drive from the east coast, to Black Rock City. Find a rideshare, or look up the Green Tortoise..

If you fly to Reno, consider rent-a-wreck, or a simliar low low budget car rental company, they rent used, beater cars for lower rates. I've used them myself and they aren't too picky about how clean the car is when you return it, after you clean it up as best as possible yourself.
