what are some good cheap meals that i could make with a tiny grill and a single cooler

Buy another cooler! I always bring the good meats to be eaten in the first day or two. I havent tried it yet, but frozen Bacon? Hot Dogs..It really depends on how lazy you are. If you keep fresh ice in your cooler, daily, Its really up to you!

Keep reading eplaya..this has been discussed. Canned foods are good!

I'm sure there must be a Domino's Pizza near Ashkum, Il. You can always call them and they will will deliver a delicious hot pizza right to your door!

Maybe we can get double pizzas delivered!

About meals; I tend to work through each meal with things easy and effortless.
Breakfasts: breakfast bars and cellophane wrapped pastries. Precooked bacon and cereal.

Lunch: Tuna and chicken cups with crackers. Energy bars.

Dinner: Canned stuff like ravioli etc.

Bring extra to share with neighbors and you may find an invitation to dinner.
You can keep frozen meats in your cooler and buy more ice as it melts during the week. Sausage, chicken, burgers--really whatever you like. Keep in mind the dust factor when using the grill.

Propane grill or charcoal? Because the ashes have to be hauled away and are a pain to contain in windy conditions.

Save your cooler for drinks, the food thaws out too fast if you're always dipping in for cold beer.

Canned foods, foods in packets or pouches. Bring something to boil water in and make noodles or couscous.

I've done a lot of canned stuff, as others have said. Soups, chili, tuna fish, whatever. Pasta, hot dogs, and pb&j are pretty cheap and easy too. My boyfriend and I are also fans of getting those giant (dry) sandwiches from the grocery store and cutting pieces off whenever we feel like it. This year I'm going to be a little more prepared and make some yummies ahead of time like chicken salad, quinoa, soup, and some marinated meats. Pretty much anything that we would normally take camping.

Precooked chicken and packages of precooked brown rice, precooked bacon and a couple of eggs, precooked burger and shredded cheese for quesas, juice boxes, Annie Chung Miso Soup, ham, chicken and tuna cups w/crackers, chips and salsa, granola bars, canned pasta things, canned chicken for later, canned weinies for mac and cheese, shelf stable unrefrigerated milk boxes for cereal. I don't tend to eat like defaultia and I don't eat much. Eat the meat first, you don't want to get sick. I don't want to cook much and it seems I take back a ton of uneaten food.

Canned food doesn't need an ice chest. Ramen seems to be big on the playa. See our page for quick meals at the Burn:

Some of the items on that page are ramen, dehydrated meals, self-heating meals, and no-cook emergency life raft rations. Note the reference to Minimus down near the bottom of that page; they have single serving sizes of just about everything. The price for single servings is more packaging, but if the other side is food waste, make your decision based on your needs.

Some of it may be inedible to you, so whatever you choose, try it first at home. Louise and I bring lots of canned food with us, but it's all recipes we've made at home and liked. You don't want to be out on the playa for a week and find you hate your canned tuna and crackers that you've planned for lunch three days in a row.

I agree with CFM. Look through the MANY MANY threads already written on food. My recommendation, go with things you don't have to cook, boil, or refrigerate. TaDa.

Try looking up a thread titled something like: "non cooler based food" posted by junglesmacks...it has tons of good suggestions, it may be "easy non cooler based food"...js doesn't mind if you stalk his profile to find the info, haha, I asked him.

He's got some really good, pragmatic threads started on a few other important subjects too...big box truck method vs costly RV and probably a LOT of body lighting, plus a few other funny surprises.

Tuna! canned or special flavored foil packet (maaayyybbbeee fresh can be had, roving, always roving...it swims around a bit out there, lol) tuna is easy; salt, protien and fat.

Pancake mix, water only, lightly oil the pan, super easy to make and clean up, skip the butter and lay on the syrup!

Louise and I used to bring our little Weber table top BBQ grill and make burgers on the playa. After we cooked the patties, we closed the vents and the briquettes went out. No ashes blew anywhere. When the grill was cool, we put it in a big trash bag, closed it, and put it back in the van. We got two meals cooked out of the same briquettes, then took the whole thing home in the bag and emptied out the ashes at home.

No problem with wind, no problem hauling home.

Eventually, we started cooking the patties and home and just heating them up on the propane stove. But either way, you need an ice chest for the meat. If you cook the patties at home and freeze them, they become ice for the chest that you later consume after you've reheated them on your grill (gas or charcoal). Whatever floats your boat.

My favorite thing that I brought to eat.

The night before heading out I grilled a BIG boneless top sirloin over masquite. Sliced it into 1/2in. strips and put a quarter pound in each of several ziplock bags.

Rolled them up tight and froze them.

Put them in the dry ice chest and about and hour before I was ready to eat, took one out and put it on the dash.

Everyone I sheared with thought they were great.

Just dipped fingers in the bag, so there was not alot of cleanup.

If you use the orange numbers at the bottom right of the Q&A forum to navigate back a few pages, you'll find numerous food threads (currently about 7, 8, 9 pages back). You can also use the "Search" link above, though it's not foolproof.

Note: 1 cooler is enough out there, if you don't especially want to cook. Consider using the cooler for your pickles, fruit cups, vodka, champagne, & Horizon shelf-stable milk boxes instead! Many canned or vacuum-sealed foods are perfectly palatable without being heated.
