I have a truck-mounted camper that I've used for the past 2 years, and would love to gift it to someone who can keep it in action rather than clog up a landfill with it.
The camper sleeps up to 5, depending on the size of the people involved and fits a 3/4 ton+ long bed (8') pickup truck. It has working 120V and 12V, a 7 gallon water tank that feeds the sink, and propane-powered oven, 3-burner range and lamp. The 12V electrical hooks to a 7-connector RV style bladed trailer jack. The cabinetry could use some new closures, and there's a stuck drawer that could use some minor carpentry. And it's still slightly dusty from this year.
There are 3 lift jacks for mounting and removal and gutter-mounted hooks that will fit any truck bed.
The camper is located in south San Jose, and is available for immediate pick up.
PM me if you're interested. It's going to the dump this weekend, as I need the use of my truck for the winter. Act now and I'll throw in a lightly-used 2 year old camp potty and some 1-ply. Provide your own blue shmoo. |

Don't cry, he's not offering a Lance 990 or a shiny new Bigfoot... A crude 30+ year old camper like that should be available near you free for the hauling, or at least ultra-cheap. I've crushed better ones and sent 'em to the landfill! _________________ Captain of the "Land Yacht"

Yep. Goddammit described my camper pretty well. Crude, 30+ years old...
How do you crush them? :) |

Jump up and down on it...repeatedly...over a period of several hours...or days...with suitable footwear... _________________ Ask me about my balls of granite. |

Well... the last one I crushed was a 1976 11 footer. I started with a crowbar and hammer. It quickly became apparent that it was gonna be a LOT of work, and I just didn't have that much pent-up aggression to work out! So I used a track hoe to obliterate the thing, figuring if it fit ON my pickup when expanded as it originally was, it would fit IN my pickup after I compacted it.
WRONG! It made the biggest mess in the world! I ended up completely filling up a large Kenworth dump truck with it, and that was smashing it down into the truck with the hoe. I still can't figure out how it made that much of a mess. I really crushed the bejeezus out of it.
I have a friend who got rid of a few old campers by systematically dismantling them. He removed all the skin, the interior panelling, stacking it all neatly as he went, until the whole thing was gone. If you haven't got access to large hydraulic implements of destruction, that turns out to be the way to go. It's a lot of work but it's easier than trying to simply beat it to death and the remains are a lot more manageable. _________________ Captain of the "Land Yacht" |

burn it.........
what's the difference to the environment of putting that stuff in the air, to settle out, or, putting it in a landfill to settle/leach out?..........
at least fire would be fun......... _________________ YGMIR

| The way I see it, putting it in a landfill concentrates the nastiness in a confined area, where burning it carries the pollutants to the entire earth. Yes, I'd enjoy the bonfire. But my grandkids won't enjoy the asthma. |

Since nobody has claimed the camper, I'm simply going to drive it to the landfill, jack it up, and pull out from under it leaving it to their forklifts and implements of destruction...
unless someone notifies me by tomorrow. :) |

Captain, I could have used that info about 2 years ago. I tried to dismantle an older style camper and it turned into the project from hell. We ended up having to load it on a truck and take it to a friend's farm outside the city where it got used for 4x4's to crush, target practice, then torched. What a damn mess though...I'll never tackle a project like that again. _________________ Kinetic V

You know, tearing a camper apart is like eating an artichoke. Somehow you have more of it when you're done than you did when you started. _________________ Captain of the "Land Yacht" |

if anyone's tearing a camper or trailer apart, near northern CA, I'd like to have the fridge, if it works, and is propane powered, in one piece......... _________________ YGMIR

If no one can pick it up on here, put it on craigslist and freecycle.
And at least recycle the useful parts, fridge, stove and so on.
Campers can be mounted on flat trailers too, if someone needing it isn't aware of that.
I saw a really cool one that was all ratty on the outside and fully updated on the inside.
Put on a flat trailer, the outside looked so ordinary, they never had anyone try to break in. |

No bites on CL and the San Jose list got shut down. They re-created it and instituted a 72 hour moderator hold on new accounts, and the beast needs to be gone by tomorrow.
The "fridge" in my camper is just an icebox that will take 20lb of ice and drip drains to the ground. I don't have any room to store the propane stove, but if someone wants it before tomorrow and has the tools and inclination, drop me a line. You can have it.
