People here usually try to avoid the super snarky replies till page two so that the OP has a better chance of getting at least a little information before the wolves show their teeth. It doesn't always work out like that...

As there tends to be a fair amount of churn within camps (both the registered theme camps and unregistered stuff that just shows up at the gates) from year to year, it might be premature to look at joining a camp. Camps rise, camps fall, camps take the year off and sometimes camps disband completely. Your best bet would be to simply connect with your local regional group and stay tuned for things happening in your area over the course of the next two years. Meet some people, make some friends. Join a camp in the runup to the year you guys plan on going.

Aside from connecting with a regional group, for early planning I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the survival guide and first timer's guide, then get a handle on some of the basic camping supplies and maybe costumes/playawear/clothing you'd like to wear when you do make it out.
