I'd like to use TTITD to do as many of "those things I've always wanted to try". Default world allows me to express and participate in maybe 60% of what I'd like to. I've looked through the entire listing of last years theme campus and there are a whole ton of options.

But I'm wondering if anyone can give recommendations on theme camps that provide a safe environment to just go all out, in a respectful and consenting way

PS, don't drink (just talking alcohol here, open otherwise) and I lean almost all the way to the straight side, but being around dangling schlongs doesn't bother me. Ones at attention are fine too

If you go on the burning man website it lists all of last years theme camps alphabetically. I looked at every single one of them and there are definitely a lot of gay camps, mainly male, some mixed.

There are quite a few poly/swinger type camps around...You're sure to find one that you like I don't know what 'BEAN' stands for so I'm taking BurnerBunny's lead. It depends on what you are looking for.

BurnerBunny... ::awkward:: What type of gay camp are you looking for? There's astropups, Beaverton, Gender Bender, Glam Cocks.... The list goes on... For the most part they are near the 7:30-8:30/E-G side.

I met a very nice woman who was part of a poly-esque camp (Not Poly Paradise.. although they explicitly state they are not a swingers camp)...

Freaky is a very relative word so I was thinking you may want to try body suspension:

I fixed the subject line for you so that people know what the thread is about. I was really hoping "BEAN" was something I hadn't discovered yet, because I hate to think that I really am that jaded.

As for the gay camps, like 9ah pointed out there's an entire "gayborhood" centered around 7:30 and roughly D. A lot of the gay camps request to be in that area. Personally I only go to them occasionally to hunt up friends (there's a number based out of SF, as am I), I live in a gay mecca, the last thing I need to do is to ignore all the fun to be had outside of that, though I understand the appeal to people who live outside a major city, or who are coming for the first time.

Besides, somebody has to take on the arduous task of teaching playasexuality to the straight boys...

Their High Tea is a discussion group, everyone invited. Other than that, it is a village of like minded folks camping together, not so much on interaction with/for those not in the camp.

If you're unaffiliated, you can always camp farther back along 7:30 - last year I had friends who set up at about 7:45 & I (J?), way out at the very back of the city, but they had a gorgeous view of the mountains and got peace when they wanted it.

Also take into account that BRC is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world. Yes, there will be homophobes - there are always negatives in a city of 60,000, but they are far outweighed by the positives of a city that generally really doesn't care. The only "gay" camps I've been in have been when ours organically grew that way. We're a mixed bunch, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. YMMV, no two people burn alike.

I love the mix of my camp...We've got LGBTA and anything you can think of in camp. If there are any homophobes in LLs they must be on the DL.

Once you get out there if you're open with people you meet (not creepy, just honest, but based on your post you sound pretty respectful) you will probably get invited to the type of camps/events you are interested in. I was invited to poly paradise just because I mentioned I was bisexual in a conversation with someone I met. I courteously declined, but I think if you are friendly, respectful, and honest you'll find what you're looking for.
