By freight or by truck from San Francisco?

Hello and thanks for reading this far!

We are starting a brand new theme camp this year, among our many challenges is transporting our 4-500 some odd pounds of equipment.

Paying a shipping company to drop it off and pick it up sounds quite appealing, does anyone have experience and recommendations on this subject? I'd like to know who to call, and about how much such a thing costs as I weigh it against the less appealing truck rental.

Any truck rental recommendations in the Bay Area? How soon do I need to secure this rental, are there any burningman friendly?

There may be changes this year, but it will give you an idea of the logistics.

For something as little as a few hundred pounds, go with the rental truck - it will save you a ton of grief dealing with a vendor & probably cost less, as well as giving you a structure someone can use to camp in (you can find tons of ideas on eplaya - google "eplaya AND box trucks")

Note: Do not, under any circumstanses, rent from U-Haul. You are almost guaranteed to be screwed over (again, you can find threads about that on here using the google "eplaya AND " method, which works much better than our built in search-engine.

how much does an upright piano (maybe its an organ.. those weigh less) weigh ?

Uhaul will screw you over...but, it might make you $50.

Imagine if a huge number of people made reservations, and then they had to make good on their $50 blah blah.
It could possibly do enough damage for them to re-think pulling reservations at the last minute.

400-500 pounds doesn't seem like a lot, depending on the amount of space that takes up you may just want to rent a cargo van.
