2013 Theme - Cargo Cult - thoughts?

Cargo Cult - Who is John Frum? He is known to us by many names, this Visitor from Elsewhere, dispenser of endless abundance and wielder of mysterious technologies: John Frum, Quetzalcoatl, Osiris, "Bob." His cargo is splendid, his generosity boundless, his motives beyond our understanding. But across the ages and around the world, the stories all agree: one day he will return, bearing great gifts. Our theme this year asks three related questions; who is John Frum, where is he really from, and where, on spaceship Earth, are we all going?

If we're talking about cult themed stuff at burning man:

I've always wanted to see an HP Lovecraft theme camp. I'd love to see a bar that was dedicated to worshiping Cthulhu, with pictures of Shoggoths and the camp mates dressed as monsters. People chanting prayers that Cthulhu will come and bring about the end of the world. I'd hang out there every night.

Yes, now I'm kicking myself: A few years ago I had the chance to pick up an 18 seat "commuter" airliner for the scrap metal value of a couple thousand. But I held out for the price of free, for hauling it away, and now it's gone.

But smaller "dead" planes are quite plentiful -- and easier to transport. Check your local "general aviation" air fields, and don't forget Uncle Google. There are web sites full of small planes for sale, including hulks for parts.

A few years ago the BRC intergalactic spaceport was looking at an art car project. They found a small aircraft wrecking yard, so those places are around. BTW the designer of the Spirit of St Louis aircraft also designed a small run of travel trailers in the 30's, which are being brought back as a luxury trailer the Bowlus Road Chief. A cargo from the past for the cults?

Off the top of my head; two in the Southern California inland desert: in Mojave and somewhere near Adelanto or Victorville.
The really big one is near Tucson, AZ, but I suspect that's mostly military and perhaps not available to the public.

Less than $60 a ticket is a bargain. If it's too expensive for you, you'll have no trouble finding someone to buy it off you for what you paid.
