Orphan Brewers

Postby mudpuppy000 » Sun Jan 13, 2013 9:27 pm

Orphan/Endorphin camp is seeking homebrewers who would like to share their creations in our pub. Last year was our first year with a bar, and it was so much fun we're going to do it again for 2013. We mostly serve craft/homebrew beer, but cider, mead, infused vodkas, homemade sodas, wine, or anything else you can think of would be a great addition. Also, feel free to stop by the pub if you just want to help us drink any of the above, or our signature coctail: "Frank the magic goat"

Awesome! :D Yes, I'll post our location when we know it. We're going to seek placement again this year. I don't think we had any homemade wine last year. Are you a winemaker??? :)

Is your friend looking for a place to camp or just volunteer? We should have spots for both, but details are still being worked out.

We had a full size kegerator w/ CO2 last year (for the commercial kegs). This year we'd like to add a jockey box as it took a long time to chill a keg in there when they were swapped out. I also have a separate setup for homebrew kegs in an ice bucket, but I'd like to get a jockey box for that too.

Just thinking - I am a homebrewer too, but living in Germany.
Does anybody here have a Idea how to get my stuff to the US?
Sending one box with approx. 60 pounds to someone, but is this allowed?
If we manage this, i could offer "Münchener Weissbier"

YES!! :D

I don't think there are any restrictions on bringing beer into the country. I flew back from the UK with a suitcase full of beer no problem. It would be extremely expensive to ship it through the mail, but you could probably bring it on your flight with you.

No I am not a winemaker, just a wine rep for the largest distributor in the nation. My friend is camping with me at BDC. She is looking fo places to volunteer to bartend as she owns a restaurant. You can pm me if you like and we can chat :D

Mudpuppy is too modest to mention that he won several of the awards at the Homebrew Camp competition in 2011. His ales are legendary, and his ciders are just right for a hot day on the playa. He was too busy helping drink the brew in 2012 to enter any contests.

I am very happy for your positive reaction, really! But unfortunately an additional suitcase would be really expensive  I am not sure if 20 liters of my stuff are worth spending 200€ (280$) in transportation fees for an extra luggage item. But if you have a idea how to send this in any other way to the states without spending so much.. :?:

Yes, it's going to be difficult, but I think that is still cheaper than the mail. We tried to send a large cardboard box to the UK and it was over $500. We ended up checking it as an extra bag for ~$100 or so. Bring whatever you're able, it's all welcome in the camp! :D

A trial bottle or two should find it's way over the big ocean under all circumstances, i am happy to share them with you :-). But i am trying to figure out something, there is a tool named uship.com where you can offer items for transportation, and the transportation companies cann apply for the jobs. Maybe they can offer me something. (would be also helpful to bring some additional stuff to the playa)

There must be an easy way to ship things overseas. I can't imagine beer companies pay that much to ship their beer here! :D Maybe you can find a way to ship it over on a boat.

I'm sure that beer companies get bulk pricing (Matou is unlikely to fill a container) and I suspect that they pretty much sell prestige product. Also certain that the ratio of distilled spirits to beer exported to that produced is much higher. Wine may well be different.. Although, they don't export plonk. Germany has three different grades of wine--table, maybe, is the lowest, then Preditat then Preditat mit Qualitat--and that last stuff is what gets exported.

Now, I've got to check on that, so I can edit out any rank idiocy in my golden hour...
Well, I wasn't far off, so I'm letting things stand, except for adding this link.

Hmmm, I know NYC does at least one container that you can buy space in and have it shipped to the playa. I wonder if anyone in europe does the same.

At the moment i found a way what enables me to bring about 4 gallons beer to the playa - if everything fits togther.
So: wheat hop and yeast are ready and waiting for a free weekend. After that - press thumbs, that everything fits in place.
(what includes sending some package via dhl to a hotel in vegas  if someone checks what is in that package, it will never get any inch nearer to the playa than to some servicemen's stomach :? )

*g* kidding. let's see & think positive

I think I can set you up with some one that can supply a jockybox. (or parts to build a costom one)
I'll send you a PM with the info.

One of the members of our camp (Totenkitten) by the name of Callum is a homebrewer, I'll pass this info along to him and see if he's interested!

I'm a home winemaker in Sonoma County and would enjoy the opportunity to camp on with some other home brew types and enjoy the pleasure of pouring and gifting my creation. I make Cab, Merlot, and a Meritage. Come BRC I should have 3 Cabs I'll be drinking. Any interest?

Yes! :D

We are almost full for camping in the main camp, but we have two satellite camps that still have some space. We have several people that aren't camping with us but will be bringing their creations to share in the pub too. :)
