I just picked up a gift certificate for 4 dogsled outtings and a perfect card to put them in.
Day after tomorrow my son gets to give them to the couple who have been transporting him to and from the psych hospital where he's been going daily since September. Son's last days there. He'll be returning to school in the beginning of January. (can I have a Fuck Yeah!!!?)
I'm so happy to be able to offer these rides to this couple. They run the only local taxi service, and gladly agreed to sign up as his transport - even tho they're paid way less than the going rate and it's close to 100km each day back and forth (twice a day), lessening their "fleet" by either half or a whole (depending on whether Monsieur is working taxis or construction that day and able to drive fares with the other vehicle).
Their business has been really suffering, and they're living kind of hand to mouth at the moment, so it really wasn't something they could have offered themselves. At about $100 a ride, it was not in the cards for them, tho it was something they'd always wanted to do. Their extremely handicapped adult son has always wanted to go too, so I got 4 so they can invite a 4th to drive his sled (or whatever configuration they prefer).
I got it in trade for translating I do for the outfit, so it was totally possible for me to make a dream come true. At about a $400 value, it's not something I could have even come close to otherwise.
I'm really REALLY excited about this. They're such wonderful people, who became important confidants to my son during his long rides in and out of therapy and testing. A real bond was struck between them. And I really wanted to say THANK YOU in a big way.........
....and the universe provided.

Fuck yeah! my Friday is redeemed! I spent the whole day thinking it was Saturday and that I did a poor job with Friday! now I can slack off Friday all over again and enjoy A Saturday morning all over again!
