Postby barilaad » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:19 am

Hi there!
I'm making an art grant proposal and wish to know how much it costs approximately shipping a 3.3X3.3X4.3 wooden box contains my art from Reno to the playa. Thanks!! :D 8)

From Israel? And...Metric or U.S.? And...can you get these?

To the playa may/will be expensive. Having it shipped to a location, and picking it up, might be better.

Hi there Tom thanks for the reply.
3.3X3.4X3.4 feet wooden box. I'll send it from Israel to Reno to a burner house probably, and then will have to get it into the playa somehow. What is the most preferable way? UPS shipping/renting a tender something else? never been to the playa but wish to contribute as much as I can.

Do ya want those shoes? :o

I do!

Being an thinking artist, you are already contributing to BRC. Ive seen your post regarding art grants, so you are obviously going through the right channels. I hope the ORG gives you their blessings! I don't know if the ranch accepts crates, but that would be ideal! I think it's safe to say that MOST burners are trustworthy. And your art should find it's way out there safe....but keep up on it! As for the Commando boots, I can make you a great trade.

Are you coming to the playa too? You can always rent a truck at Budget truck rentals on Gentry Way here in Reno and drive it up. Or have someone do that for you. Drive it up there and off load it and drive the truck back or stay and keep the truck up there for the week.

Budget Truck on Gentry is very very burner friendly...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Pizza has been delivered to the playa, from Reno...so I'm sure UPS or some other shipping company will deliver. The cost may be a factor...or not. I'd check with them first, getting a quote to ship to Gerlach, NV...and that should give you an idea.

I'm pretty sure there's a mechanism for getting a UPS delivery while on playa, you'd need to talk to the ORG. about it, but I do believe it can happen.
prolly other shippers, as well.

I'd suggest working out getting it to Reno, where you can then pick it up yourself and haul it to the playa with you (in a rental truck/van).

One could talk to either the Reno Post Office (or other shipper) or a Reno Hotel about delivery. A hotel would have better accessibility at all hours.

Did you try DHL, Fed EX, or others?

I think that you can ship to the Burningman LLC office in Gerlach. When I volunteered with ESD I think we got stuff that way. Important stuff that helped the department run. I think that a) it's taking a largish risk, and b) that that isn't really the sort of burden you should be putting on the llc.

i'm renting a 16 foot box truck in reno, so could probably take it.

i am literally the least artistic person on the planet, so would love to contribute some other way. feel free to message me.

(i'm also a virgin burner, so logistically it could be a bit of a mess. which would be way more fun of course!)

There is no such thing. Except maybe Henry Kissinger.
You just haven't experienced your creativity since you were a small child.

I'm sure there are people on this board who could give testimonials.

1 cubic meter fits into any pickup truck, minivan, van, and most SUVs. I don't see the big deal getting it to the playa.
